It may sound a bit clich eacute;d, but feeling good about yourself makes you more productive, and until I've cleaned myself up and dressed first thing in the morning I just don't feel like I'm ready somehow.If you're content to work in your tighty whities all day with the windows open and your retired neighbors aghast, maybe just try cleaning up one day, spraying on some Axe body spray and getting dressed to see how you feel in comparison.Regular hoursSet yourself regular work hours. The nice thing about working from home is you can usually be flexible with your working hours, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't still have set hours. It's hard to get anything done when you're being interrupted by pets, parents, spouse, children, etc. My wife is currently at home on maternity leave, and it's nice to be available if she needs assistance with the new baby or our 2-year-old son, but I need time to do my work.You wouldn't be able to work a regular office job with a toddler on your lap, yelling for Elmo videos, so it's understandable that there needs to be generally uninterrupted work time. So far, having my family at home has worked out pretty well, with even our headstrong 2 year old grasping the concept that when Daddy's office door is closed, he's working and he'll be able to play later. My son even says "Bye!" to me now and waves when I'm going into the office to start my work day.Separate work environment and minimize distractionsIt's also useful to have a designated work space. A "zone of work" that you can enter and exit. For myself, I'm lucky enough to have an office in my home but even if you don't it's not a bad idea to create a separate space that's specifically setup for work. Even though it should go without saying, make an effort to decrease distractions.If you're a PC Runeacape gamer and you don't have the willpower to not fire WoW up every couple of hours, then perhaps you need a work machine that doesn't have any Runeacape games installed, or create a unique login that doesn't have access to programs you may find distracting. I find it useful for my PC to be work only while receiving my gaming fix on the consoles setup in our den. It's helpful for me to have that separation.Don't limit human interactionsAfter working in a busy office, this is something that I didn't think would be an issue but it was. I found the transition from always being in communication with others to working primarily by myself to be a bit jarring. By the end of the work week I found I craved human interaction; that I'd even go a little squirrely without it.As I mentioned in previous blogs, regularly scheduled meetings with my team helps to break up the monotony of this lone programmer's existence while keeping the team on task. It can never hurt to keep up communications with your team, even going so far as to have a voice chat session running in the background while working occasionally.This may hinder productivity in the short-term, but in the long run I find it helps keep me from experiencing cabin fever. A change of venue from time to time couldn't hurt either. If you can, take a laptop down to your local cafe and get some work done. First to market, he says, might be a nice bragging right, but in terms of the bottom-line, it's relatively meaningless. "Being first in the next generation race is not important at all," he tells Gamasutra. "One of the reasons we believe this is the time for Nintendo to launch the Wii U is it's going to be important for the world."That's a big, some might say haughty claim, but Iwata explains the rationale behind it. When the Wii launched, HD TVs were hardly commonplace, something that has changed today. In the interim, though, the second screen has become a force to deal with.Apple's iPads, and other tablets, are expensive, though and the Wii U offers an alternative. In addition, Iwata doesn't believe people who have bought a high definition television in the past few years are likely to buy a replacement model for five years or so. There's a lot of pressure on the Wii U. Nintendo recently reported the first corporate loss in the company's history as a publicly traded firm. Iwata says he does not expect that to be repeated next year. "Our intention is to return to profitability after just one year of losing money," he says. "I just cannot say that it's a good thing for Nintendo at all to record an annual loss for two or more years in a row. The loss of the past year is due to the 3DS hardware sales. We were selling hardware below the cost, so this year we are already recovering and improving the profitability of the 3DS." Iwata says Nintendo is still losing money on 3DS hardware, but that will change "in the very near future based up on where we are today in terms of our schedule to return to profitability." While Nintendo hasn't announced pricing or a launch date for the Wii U, Iwata says the company learned a lot with the launch of the 3DS handheld system, on which it was forced to slash prices just months after the system launched in the U.S. due to poor sales."The pricing of Wii U is going to be one of the most important elements when it is going to be launched," he says. "The environment is different. Wii U is going to be launching in a different environment than when the Wii was launched. | Then about 20 companies will make middle-tier ramifications of that same idea. One of them might succeed well enough to make it worthwhile, but the rest will fail, be panned by critics, and make no money. And yet it happens every console cycle.How many HD ports and safe sequels do we usually see at a console launch? How about that Mass Effect 3 on Wii U! Is that something people need? Is the implication that people that own Nintendo consoles only own Nintendo consoles, and thus could not have played Mass Effect? I reckon we can expect a couple new Ridge Racers, since new consoles seem to be the only time that Runeacape game comes out.But this is the time to take risks! People actually expect even desire new ideas in new console generations. It's supposed to be new! Risks, backed by solid developers, are often rewarded - look at Katamari Damacy or Ico, in the early days of the PS2. Look at Flower on PS3, or Braid on 360. Let's stop being so straightforward and safe with every new console generation, and actually experiment with something. Let's see what interesting AI can do for our Runeacape games, as Chris Hecker is attempting with Spy Party. Let's find some new social interactions, like ThatRuneacape gameCompany did with Journey. But most importantly, don't use my examples find that new risk for your own company. I've come to hate browsing for new content on all of the current home consoles, as you need to sift through tons of subfolders and advertisements just to find interesting content. For an industry that's supposedly going more digital by the day, that's far too cumbersome, and the consoles of tomorrow will need to make things a bit more streamlined if they want to keep up with more accessible storefronts like iOS or Steam.And while we're at it, let's see if we can get rid of the rigid pricing structure for current console Runeacape games. Charging a standard $60 for retail Runeacape games and $10-15 for downloadable titles has worked pretty well so far, but over the last several years other Runeacape game platforms have become much more consumer-friendly when it comes to Runeacape game pricing. Steam and other PC storefronts, for instance, often sell multiplatform Runeacape games for far less than their console counterparts, and why would consumers want to spend money on consoles when the PC offers approximately the same experience for less? I've personally been spending far less money on consoles for that very reason, and I'm sure others have been doing the same. That said, I'm glad to see the console makers experiment with digital discounts and free-to-play Runeacape games, but hopefully these companies will push things a bit further as we get closer to the next generation. Consoles do not need barrages of 99c and free-to-play Runeacape games. Many "traditional" Runeacape gamers i.e. the majority of the people who will be picking up the PS4 and the Next Xbox are still fine with swapping a pile of cash for your high quality titles. | ||

Right now, my problem with my Xbox and my PS3 is that I don't use them on a daily basis, but I do use my PC, smartphone, and tablet on a daily basis, so I end up buying Runeacape games for those devices more often.Do play nicely with other devices. Give me a reason to check out Xbox Live from my iPad when I'm not even at my console. I already keep my phone and tablet next to me when I'm playing Runeacape games anywaylet me do something with them, like chat with other people watching a live video stream or use them to supplement the actual in-Runeacape game action....Do not try and funnel me into your "ecosystem" by supporting only your phone OS or mobile devices. You guys came late to the platform party. I am already stretched between Google and Facebook. iOS and Android, Windows and Mac OS. Don't for a second believe that you have anything compelling enough for me to go all-Microsoft or all-Sony.Do continue build up your other media features. Your boxes sit underneath or next to millions of TVs across the world; I want to watch things on those TVs that I can't get from my cable TV provider, and you can help me with that....Do not forget that the people who are turning your consoles on are likely there to play Runeacape games!
