Once you have done enough quests for some of these groups, you will have access to specific faction enchants (among other things). This will enable you to modify those left over pieces of gear. There is a concise discussion of how reputation works and some of the groups you may want to become friends with over here. Your character is all ready to go and let's say that you've found a group to plunge into the depths of the newest dungeon with. When you show up for your raid there is a couple of things you will be expected to have with you. The first is reagents. Reagents will allow you to cast some group buffs and perform special abilities that are necessary during a raid. You are expected to have enough of these purchased in advance to last you throughout the entire raid. There is a Reagent Vendor in every major city. You are also expected to have a night's supply of buff food, flasks and potions. Buff food is game food that will increase your stats for a certain period of time. With the invention of the fish feast, Blizzard has provided a food that buffs all classes equally well. If you bring along enough of these everyone in the party will be fine. The buff from the fish feast lasts 60 minutes. Cooking is something everyone can learn. Flasks and potions are again items that your character imbibes to enhance your power. Flasks last even through death which is a great benefit while potions do not. You will have to level the Alchemy profession or buy these items from the Auction House. Read the online or published strategy guides. Knowledge is power. The most important attributes of a successful raider is to know what is coming and be able to survive it. The other night, there were seven instances of Nar Shadaa. That planet didn’t get that packed during the last Night Life Event. Of course, I didn’t give socializing an A because things are far from perfect. The server merges were good for getting people together, but it pushed communities together that didn’t belong on the same server. For instance, roleplayers and those who hate roleplayers now have to share the same server. And many people lost character names they have held for years. Despite some of the issues, some social groups, like those who run the Starforge Enjin site, have thrived. At the last Guild Services party, I counted over 60 people trying to occupy the area in front of the stage at the Slippery Slopes during a dance party. I was impressed. Achiever: B- The biggest issue for the Achiever category is Command Rank. Achievers like to fill up bars, but even they have limits when it comes to how grindy the achievement is. The grind isn’t as bad as some past games have made them. As far I know, we don’t have legitimate players running macros just to gain CXP like we have in older games. And the rewards of CXP are achievable through other means, this means, that if you aren’t looking to just fill up bars, you can still get the benefits. From my understanding of Achievers, they prefer to reach goals that few people have. Of course, there are always achievements in new flashpoints and PvP zones, but BioWare has switched things up a little bit by making certain rewards available only through doing specific flashpoints. For example, the Chiss armor set that most of the Copero NPCs are wearing is available in game, but only from boss drops in the Copero flashpoint. Although that isn’t an achievement that people can see by exploring your achievement list, it is an achievement that you can wear as you play through other parts of the game. Killer: B Not much has been done over the years for PvPers and other competitors in SWTOR. In fact, most PvP vets will tell you that all the good PvPers left a long time ago. However, I know that PvP is still one of the most popular things to do in SWTOR, and even activities like Galactic Starfighter have picked up in recent months. I believe that this is in direct relation to the new zones that BioWare introduced this year. The Iokath starfighter map and the Yavin ground-PvP zone have renewed interest in the PvP game. I don’t think that SWTOR‘s PvP is balanced; I don’t think that it’s ever been. However, it’s one of the more balanced PvP systems in an MMORPG. I also think that even if it was 100% balanced that PvPers would be happy or call it balanced. It’s also very easy to learn, so more people are in it. Combine those factors with a new zone or two based on a known ruleset, then you have a wonderful way to increase the overall PvP activity. I can’t give it an A because open-world PvP is lax and still not a lot of fun, and for some reason, it’s still difficult to encourage people to PvP in ranked competition. Also, the same couple of classes still seem to be on top of the leaderboards every time, so the balance issues are evident. But that doesn’t stop PvP from being fun for most people, and the new zones keep things interesting. Explorer: D Even though I believe that Copero is a beautiful flashpoint and highly detailed, it only serves to remind us just how impossible it is to explore anything in this game. I would give SWTOR an F for exploration if there weren’t already some interesting places to explore and if there weren’t little Easter eggs planted in Copero. I do have high expectations for Explorers since is it one of my favorite activities in MMORPGs, so the score might be skewed low. But I don’t think that is an excuse for SWTOR doing so badly in that regard. | Bioware is making some changes to Ranked PvP Mission Rewards in 5.6.1.There have been some questions about the bug related to Solo Ranked Missions in that they are not giving anything beyond CXP and Credits. The other bug present in the PvP Mission rewards is that instead of giving players one crafting lockbox which coincides with their Command Rank tier, they are instead getting one crafting lockbox from each of the four tiers. Miasmat for example has taken the correct approach in the current foundry situation. “We offer a fair non-intrusive pay model that respects our players wallets and time.”The second thing to note is a fair montization model. This ties into what other have said about designing ethical lockboxes. Neverwinter with its exclusive and progression relevant items is awful at doing that. If something is not perceived as fair, it will fail. And talking about non-intrusive, how about those admin message spam? This is one of the worst ways to implement lootboxes. If your product was solid, this kind of annoying advertisement wouldn’t be necessary. “Giving players a choice and a voice really matters.”Giving players a choice and a voice really matters. It’s made a huge difference for us and it’s a lesson the industry needs to get better at. Whether it’s a free game or a $60 game with MTX, monetization has to be built into the DNA of the game design itself to succeed. […] We’ve also spent that same five years trying to turn perceptions around on the poor reputation free-to-play and MTX has received over the past decade in the gaming community. This is another interesting tidbit. First of all it refers to the perception of rewards I’ve mentioned above. Greedy developers and publishers have done such an awful job on free-2-play and lootbox monetization that we’re at a point where you have to do exceptionally well to sell a game that features this kind of stuff. Braun also claims that you need to build monetization around your game. With lockboxes being such an important part of the progression, it certainly feels like Neverwinter went the opposite path.
