The Cleveland defense was worth minus-1.1 wins with Collins on the field for 310 snaps and minus-4.1 wins for 715 snaps without him, so while the Browns missed their star linebacker, it wasn't like they were great with him around.
The signing of Norman after the Panthers released him from a franchise tag was seen as a coup for Washington, but it hasn't worked out that way. The D.C. pass rush has ranked third in pressure rate and eighth in sack rate over the past two years, but it was 24th in pass defense DVOA in 2016 before improving to sixth last season. Norman had four interceptions and two pick-sixes during his breakout season in Carolina, but he has just three picks in 30 games since arriving in Washington. Norman has been good, but the 30-year-old hasn't been the transformative player Scot McCloughan was hoping to add to his secondary at the time.
The outspoken leader of the Jacksonville defense, Ramsey played remarkably well for a rookie cornerback in 2016 and was part of the best cornerback duo in football last season. The only question about Ramsey coming into the NFL was whether he would be a playmaker after intercepting just three passes at FSU, but the 23-year-old racked up four picks in addition to his 17 pass deflections in 2017. Ramsey isn't due for a new deal until 2019 at the earliest, but he's the position's best bet to garner a massive extension. Marcus Peters also might be in the running here.
Berry bet on himself before the 2016 season and subsequently produced the best season of his career, forcing the Chiefs into an enormous extension. The second-largest safety contract at the time Berry signed his deal called for Devin McCourty to receive $29.9 million over three seasons. Most big contracts go to free safeties, but Reshad Jones plays a mix of both safety spots and is in second with $33 million over three years, while pure strong safety Kam Chancellor is in third at $31 million.
The Seahawks are reportedly shopping their star safety for first- and third-round picks, but they have nobody who can replace the future Hall of Famer and Texas product in the lineup at free safety. There might not be another safety in football who can do what Thomas does at his best. Thomas turns 29 in May, but if he wants to continue his career, someone is going to pay him a Berry-esque sum to erase the deep middle of the field. If Thomas retires, Landon Collins would be another possibility.
Hekker is almost universally regarded as the best punter in football, and this two-year extension came with four years already remaining on his current deal. It won't technically hit the books for the Rams until 2021. The Oregon State product is one of just a handful of players signed through the 2022 campaign. King, meanwhile, inherited the biggest three-year contract title after Dustin Colquitt's contract expired following the most recent season. The Raiders paid King $5.3 million during the 2016 season alone, which was more than Carr and Mack combined.

Brown once had one of the biggest bargain veteran contracts in all of football, but after making $37.3 million over five years on his second deal, Brown got a huge raise to $17 million per year after the 2016 season.
Meanwhile, there are six active deals within $2 million of one another toward the top of the charts: DeAndre Hopkins ($49 million), Brown ($48.9 million), Sammy Watkins ($48 million), Demaryius Thomas ($47.5 million), A.J. Green ($47.3 million) and Julio Jones ($47 million). Those numbers were left in the dust by Evans, whose five-year, $82.5 million deal was only a modest increase on the five-year, $81 million deal signed by Hopkins before the 2017 season. Johnson was presumably paid with the intention of eventually moving over the former fourth overall pick to left tackle, but with Halapoulivaati Vaitai holding his own in the absence of Jason Peters, the Eagles might not mess with what worked and just keep Johnson on the right side for the foreseeable future.
While players like Trent Brown are likely to sign extensions first, Lewan's teammate in Tennessee might be the right tackle with the best shot of topping Johnson's deal. The former eighth overall pick was named a first-team All-Pro during his rookie season, and Patrick Marleau Jersey while Mike Mularkey made sure to give Conklin plenty of help, the Michigan State product has allowed just 2.5 sacks during his first two seasons in the league. Every year, NFL free agency rewrites the financial record books of the NFL. The big news in 2018 was obviously the fully guaranteed, three-year deal Kirk Cousins signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but it was only one of a number of contracts that reset the salary structure at given positions over the past month. In fact, when you compare the deals to the previous highs at each spot in the lineup, Cousins' deal wasn't even the most dramatic contract of the offseason.
Of course, what Cousins' contract put into context was the amount of filler that comes with most NFL deals. The five-year, $40 million contract Nigel Bradham signed to stay with the Philadelphia Eagles looked like top-tier money for a linebacker who doesn't rush the quarterback very frequently, but a closer look revealed that it was really a one-year deal for $6 million or a two-year deal for $14 million at most.
You might have an idea of what a good number is for a quarterback like Cousins on a guaranteed deal, but what actually represents a significant outlay at guard or inside linebacker? And what happens when you strip out the team options tacked onto the end of most free-agent deals and extensions? Who actually has the biggest contract?
Let's go position by position and compare financial apples to apples to get a sense of what the top of the market is at each spot on the field. For each specific position or archetype, I've included the largest annual salary on paper among active deals. I've also included the largest three-year value for a player at those same positions, which is http://www.officiallightningsshop.com/authentic-9-tyler-johnson-jersey.html a measure teams use to calculate the amount of money a player is likely to take home from a given deal. It's crazy to think that Cousins just made it to the top of the quarterback leaderboard, but by the end of the offseason, he might not even be No. 1.
I fully expected Cousins to come away with a minimum of $90 million on his new contract, even if it had been fully guaranteed, but Cousins ended up settling for the largest annual salary of any quarterback in NFL history. Oh well. Annual average salary figures can be inflated by non-guaranteed base salaries late in contracts that don't ever have a prayer of being exercised, but with a fully guaranteed deal, Cousins is a significant exception to that rule.
Stafford has now been able to extract three enormous contracts from the Lions, with each of the new deals being used to ease the cap pressure Mitchell Trubisky Jersey from the previous ones. His most recent extension lowered Stafford's cap hit in 2017 from $22 million to $16 million, but it came at an enormous cost. The former first overall pick has a contract that both guarantees him $60.5 million at signing and has roster bonuses in 2019 and 2020 that become fully guaranteed 12 months in advance. As a result, Stafford realistically has a four-year, $108.5 million deal before the Lions could give any thought to moving on from their longtime quarterback.
The former Georgia star pushed the quarterback market way forward. Eli Manning set the bar for three-year money at $68.5 million in 2015, only for Andrew Luck to leap to $75 million the next year. Fourteen months later, Stafford pushed the bar significantly higher to that $87 million mark. The two quarterback contracts about to come down the pike are the extensions for Rodgers and Matt Ryan. It wouldn't be shocking if Ryan got the larger deal, if only because he's 2 years younger than Rodgers, but I do think Rodgers' status as a future Hall of Famer makes it more likely he'll end up with the larger annual average, though likely on a shorter contract.
Those negotiations will be the first real sign of the Cousins effect and whether quarterbacks -- if not players at other positions -- will be able to sign fully guaranteed contracts. It wouldn't be shocking to see Rodgers sign a fully guaranteed, three-year, $90 million deal that would top both of the numbers above and make him the first $30 million-per-year player in league history.
The running back market is unique in that so many of the largest contracts are in the past. Of the 20 largest three-year values for halfback deals since the current collective bargaining agreement was signed, 13 are no longer active contracts. Two are for draft picks, and when Saquon Barkley joins Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournette in the league, he'll make it a third. There are just five veterans on non-rookie contracts in the top 20: McCoy, Jerick McKinnon (a staggering $22.8 million), Devonta Freeman ($22.1 million), Lamar Miller ($19.8 million) and Giovani Bernard ($15.5 million).
Bell will make $26.7 million between 2016 and 2017 by virtue of the franchise tag, which contextualizes just how difficult it is for the Pittsburgh Steelers and their star back to find fair value on a long-term deal. The way he can pass and see the floor, get layups, floaters, maybe a lob, maybe out to the corner -- he has so many weapons, and now he's shooting those step-back 3s.
A couple of crunch-time possessions against the Trail Blazers illustrated D'Antoni's point. On both occasions, Harden swished step-back 3s, which he has developed into arguably the most lethal weapon in the league today. On the first, which came with the Rockets clinging to a two-point lead with a little more than three minutes left, Harden passed up a good look after catching the pass at the 3-point line. Houston's front office did a phenomenal job of surrounding its co-superstars with role players who serve as excellent complementary pieces. But Harden is the guy who makes the Rockets go, and the fact that the 28-year-old guard took another significant leap forward this summer has fueled Houston's rise to the top of the Western Conference standings.
The Rockets seem to have made it a mere formality that they'll march into the playoffs with home-court advantage throughout the postseason. Dan Graziano, national NFL writer: New York Jets. They landed the biggest prize on the free-agent cornerback market in Trumaine Johnson. They added Avery Williamson as a leader for the linebacker corps. They added Isaiah Crowell to their running back group. All upgrades. Now, to the matter of quarterback: Josh McCown isn't an improvement because he was already there. But the Jets' overall plan at the position is improved, as Teddy Bridgewater has more upside than anyone else the Jets had on Corey Dickerson Womens Jersey last year's roster, and trading up to the No. 3 pick in the draft means they're likely to add someone else who does, as well.
KC Joyner, NFL writer: Houston Texans. The Texans ranked 29th in my blocking grades last season. They aimed to help solve this by signing three offensive linemen, the most valuable of which could be the highly versatile Senio Kelemete. They also added Tyrann Mathieu, who can play slot, outside cornerback or either safety position or even fill in as a speedy box linebacker.
Mike Sando, senior NFL writer: Cleveland Browns. They had lots of room for improvement and should realize upgrades from multiple newcomers, especially at QB, which offsets Joe Thomas' retirement. However, NFL rosters are a little worse on the whole because so many depth players remain unsigned (free agents who have been added were signed at premium prices).

Field Yates, NFL Insider: Chicago Bears. It was sometimes painful to watch the Bears' offense last season without any weapons and perpetually struggling. Adding Allen Robinson on a three-year contract along with the signing of versatile and talented tight end Trey Burton should bring a smile to the faces of new coach Matt Nagy and second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Whether it comes to fruition on the field or not, expect an offseason worth of parallels drawn between Nagy's relationship with Trubisky and Rams coach Sean McVay's relationship with quarterback Jared Goff.
Graziano: Patriots at left tackle. Look, you trust New England figures these things out, and we're not about to pick any of the other three teams to win the AFC East. But honestly, who's playing left tackle in New England with Nate Solder off to the Giants? Tom Brady will turn 41 before the season starts, and as brilliantly age-defying as he is, they still need to make sure he's protected.
Joyner: Bills at quarterback. The only QBs on the roster are AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman, both of whom have third-string quarterback written all over them. Without a huge upgrade here, Buffalo's playoff streak will end at one season.Sando: Bills at quarterback. Moving up in the draft for a QB seems like a near necessity. Schatz: Bills at quarterback. Whomever Buffalo chooses in the first round of the draft instantly becomes the best quarterback on the roster. But the biggest problem for the Blues is that they peaked too soon. I wish they were still playing like that team we saw in October and November. Then again, after Sunday's come-from-behind overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks -- which Tarasenko sat out with an upper-body injury -- the Blues have inched to within one point of the final wild-card spot. So maybe there's a chance for redemption after all.
Chris Peters, NHL prospects writer: The Florida Panthers have made a valiant effort the over the past six weeks to get back into contention. The past two seasons have been tumultuous in South Florida, but it looks like Panthers coach Bob Boughner is getting things back on track. His team dug itself an early-season hole, and its late run might be too little, too late for a playoff spot this season. But this late push has to be hugely beneficial to the organization's psyche after some upheaval set the Panthers back a little bit.
Since Jan. 30, the Panthers have the second-best record in the NHL. They're 16-5-1 over that span, second only to the Nashville Predators. They're not dead yet, but sitting five points out of Antoine Bethea Jersey a wild-card spot with 13 games to go feels a little steep, even given how well they've played down the stretch.
The unfortunate thing is that the Panthers have finally gotten a pretty healthy season out of Aleksander Barkov. Fuller had been ineffective for the vast majority of his brief career, and he had missed the entirety of the previous season because of a knee injury that had defensive coordinator Vic Fangio questioning Fuller's desire to play. Given that any complications with the knee injury might have caused Fuller's fifth-year option for 2018 to guarantee if he couldn't pass a physical, you can understand why the Bears declined the option.
The strangest thing subsequently happened: Fuller suddenly got both healthy and good. The former 2014 first-round pick played all 16 games and had his best season as a pro, knocking away 22 passes, second in the league behind Darius Slay. A guy who looked as if he were on his way out of Chicago suddenly looked like a building block for a burgeoning defense, but it's way too early to say that Fuller is a sure thing. One year of valuable play is incredibly helpful, but given how little the Bears thought about Fuller before the season, it would be foolish to drastically do a 180 and treat him like a No. 1 cornerback.
The best thing to do would have been to franchise him, which would have guaranteed the Bears another year and allowed them to retain the leverage in negotiating a long-term deal. That would have cost $15 million. Instead, the Bears chose to hit Fuller with the transition tag, saving $2 million but allowing Fuller to negotiate with other teams and come up with a long-term offer that's designed to prevent the Bears from matching.
Instead, Fuller went out and found a four-year, $56 million deal with the Packers that contains $18 million guaranteed. For one, the Bears immediately matched the deal, which is bizarre; they could have waited the full five days and tied up the Packers before accepting the offer. (If the argument is that they didn't want Fuller to twist in the wind, that's also silly since you can privately tell a player you're privately going to match and want to stick it to your division rival.)
The $18 million guarantee sounds like a modest increase on the $13 million transition tag or the $15 million franchise tag and a great deal for the Bears; swapping $5 million in guarantees for the right to lock down Fuller for the next three seasons sounds like a great move.
Unfortunately, the Packers didn't make it that simple. Reports suggest that Fuller will make $20 million in Year 1 of this http://www.officialchicagoblackhawks.com/Adidas-Martin-Havlat-Jersey deal and $29 million in Year 2, which is an enormous increase from the $10 million per year the Bears had previously been offering. As always, the issue is gauging one year of success versus a player's career. Jensen was a relatively anonymous guard. After one year of good football, the Buccaneers are making a bet that he'll continue to be one of the best centers in football. Sometimes, that works out, but the chances are always going to be greater that a player performing at a high level for a brief period of time takes a step backward (out of injury attrition or sheer regression to the mean) than a step forward.
It's also a curious fit given that the Buccaneers had previously decided to move breakout guard Ali Marpet to center to try to get their best five linemen on the field. Now, they're presumably going to move Marpet back to guard, where he lost a year of development time, in advance of the final year of the his deal. Tampa needed offensive line help, but this is an extremely aggressive maneuver from a team that has made a habit out of signing quality free agents and getting less out of them than we would have expected.

At his peak in 2015, Mathieu was a ball-hawking force of nature, capable of shifting between free safety and serving as a slot cornerback from snap to snap. Since then, Mathieu has suited up far more frequently like a pure free safety, and the production hasn't been there. Over 26 games during 2016-17, the Honey Badger recorded just two interceptions, nine tackles for loss and eight pass breakups.
Interceptions can be totally random from year to year, and I think there's plenty of upside in targeting a guy with Mathieu's football instincts, especially given that he's still just 25 years old. The Texans are already deep at corner with Colvin, Joseph, Kareem Jackson and Kevin Johnson, so Houston might very well just stick with Mathieu as a full-time safety and use him and Andre Hal as interchangeable players inside and outside the box.

Despite a promising end to his rookie season, Patterson never emerged as much more than a return man and occasional target on screens for the Vikings. He moved to the Raiders in 2017 and lasted one year before this deal. Patterson certainly has the speed to serve as a downfield weapon, but the Tennessee product has averaged a mere 10 yards per reception as a pro, ranking 106th among the 109 wideouts with 100 catches or more over that timeframe. He also has six touchdowns as a runner and is a useful threat on the jet sweep.
Patterson's role has instead been as a kick returner, where he has been very effective over his career. Patterson has five kick return touchdowns over his career, all of which came in Minnesota. It would be about two years before the client realized what had happened and threatened to sue Blazer if he didn't return the $550,000. Blazer returned the money -- by forging another client's signature and abusing his power-of-attorney privileges to transfer $600,000 from that client's accounts, according to records. Blazer used the extra $50,000 taken from the second client to invest in a country music management venture. In January 2013, Blazer took an additional $50,000 of that client's money for the music project.
In total, between October 2010 and January 2013, Blazer took $2.35 million from five clients to invest in movie and music projects, court documents state. According to court documents, Blazer returned just $790,000 to clients he defrauded. "Mafia the Movie" was never released in theaters. It was retitled "Mafia" and went direct to DVD in 2013. "A Resurrection" was released in March 2013 and bombed, costing an estimated $5 million to make and grossing just $10,730 in the United States, according to IMDB.com.
The site gave the film four stars out of 10. One reviewer wrote that it was a "safe PG-ish film" for fans of the supernatural but not a convincing horror movie: "The suspenseful and dark atmosphere make the film a nice movie to watch with your grandmother or someone who doesn't like other more gory horror films but it is also a film that could have been better in so many ways."
Outside the Lines reached out to several of Blazer's clients and some of their attorneys, but most declined to comment. One, Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung, exchanged a few text messages about his dealings with Blazer but declined to go into detail. "I didn't move money into his movie. He stole it and forged documentation," Okung wrote.
In a May 2016, Blazer was quoted by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review as calling the episode a "miscommunication that got out of control" and saying athletes can have a "selective memory" about their financial decisions. Some of those clients had no idea the money they'd given to Blazer would fund his Hollywood dream.
Blazer's attempt to cover his losses from the film, along with another movie and a country music venture, landed him as the catalyst in an FBI investigation that might actually make a great movie one day, one featuring envelopes stuffed with cash, covert meetings in parking lots and Las Vegas hotel rooms, and coaches in high-profile programs caught on tape scheming to pay top recruits.
The ending to the real-life tale remains unknown, but as of early March, 10 people had been arrested, 10 coaches or athletic department staffers had lost their jobs or been suspended, six players had been suspended or temporarily held out, and the entire NCAA basketball apparatus hung in limbo. The federal investigation also has opened the way for possible NCAA violations at more than three dozen schools, including many of the nation's top-ranked programs, sources with knowledge of the FBI investigation have told ESPN

In 2007, property records show, Blazer and his wife built a two-story home in Clinton, Pennsylvania, tucked into the cul-de-sac of a developing subdivision.
Pittsburgh attorney Anthony Patterson, whose family has been friends with the Blazers since about that time, says Blazer rarely talked about work, his athlete clientele or even sports. "I think he was a sports fan in a different sense. Obviously he was involved, but he wasn't the guy that you'd go over to his house and watch a Jay Bouwmeester Womens Jersey football game with," Patterson says. "That was never something that we did. ...
He knew a lot of the guys and probably represented a lot of them, and I think he watched the games by himself." Hanging out in bars and clubs to woo clients was his job, not representative of his personality, according to an associate who spoke with Outside the Lines only on the condition of anonymity. For a while, Blazer wooed wealthy clients well. In 2008, when he formed a financial services and investment advising company called Blazer Capital Management (BCM) on Pittsburgh's South Side, he brought several pro athlete clients from his time at Smith Barney, according to a former colleague who spoke only the condition D.J. As Augie approached high school graduation, his father presented him with great news. He had landed his son a job at the marina. He knew his child dreamed of college and a career in coaching, but, he explained, that's not what Garridos do. They get jobs and pay the bills. His son was not pleased. He was, in fact, seething.

"You see this spot right here?" he said, pointing to nondescript concrete slab in the ballpark parking lot, only a few paces from the iconic The Road To Omaha statue. "In 1959 this was a curb. Our bus, just an old school bus, was parked right here. I made my whole team sit and wait while I sat on this curb and cried my eyes out. Just sobbing while they watched me. It was the darkest moment of my life. When I finally got on that bus, I looked at this ballpark and said, 'Guess what, you son of a b----, I'll be back to settle this.'"
There, in the middle of a parking lot while thousands of fans streamed around him, Garrido recalled his early life's story. He talked about six years playing in the minor leagues, all while working on advanced college degrees so he could one day coach and teach. He threw himself into the Bible and into "Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success." But as he moved up the coaching ladder from San Francisco State to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to Cal State Fullerton, he found his motivation by keeping his mind on the shipyard. "People are motivated by fear. Not fear like, 'I'm going to beat you up if you don't do this,' but fear of failure. It's the great internal battle every athlete and coach has to fight. ... 'Does the fear of failure motivate you to do whatever it takes not to fail, or does that fear cause you to fail?' I'm talking about baseball here. But I'm also talking about life."
He won at both, his fuel to do so a sometimes volatile, often confusing mixture of fun, tough love and outright anger. Even during his greatest moments, the seething lurked just below the surface. In 1979 he led then-upstart Fullerton to its first CWS championship. Bush to members of Rosenblatt Stadium's grounds crew. Cousins put together a strong 2017 season despite struggling to connect with top wide receivers Josh Doctson, Jamison Crowder and Terrelle Pryor Sr. and dealing with injuries to standouts Jordan Reed and Chris Thompson. His supporting cast in Minnesota will be significantly better. Wide receivers Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs were both top-20 fantasy wide receivers last season and combined to handle 46 percent of the team's targets. A run at a particular position early in free agency is often a reflection of teams' true assessment of the upcoming draft class. This week, we saw that pattern emerge at wide receiver and, to a lesser extent, cornerbacks.
By my count, 10 receivers agreed to terms on multi-year contracts with significant guarantees between Monday afternoon and Tuesday night. That included obvious targets such as Allen Robinson and Sammy Watkins, who will sign with the Bears and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively. But even part-time players such as Albert Wilson, Ryan Grant and Donte Moncrief were cashing in. And then there was 32-year-old veteran Danny Amendola, whose 2018 salary with the Miami Dolphins will more than triple what he received from the Patriots last season.

In all, the Vikings have paid or guaranteed $109 million and shipped out two draft choices to get from Bridgewater in August 2016 to Cousins in March 2018. You read that correctly.
The Vikings' immediate reaction to Bridgewater's injury was to acquire Bradford in exchange for first- and fourth-round draft picks. Then they paid him $25 million in base salaries and bonuses over two seasons. Tuesday, they guaranteed a reported $84 million to Cousins. It's true that Bridgewater would have been due for a hefty contract extension right about now if he had stayed healthy and continued his upward trajectory. But at the very least, it cost them two draft picks as well as two rare years of low salaries for a starting quarterback. And, with Cousins due to hit free agency again in three years, the story isn't over.

And the New York Jets are offering Josh McCown a one-year deal worth $10 million. Both deals seemed inflated from market expectations, to say the least, and perhaps attributable to the market Cousins set. Neither Bradford nor McCown can be considered good bets to start 16 games in 2018. Bradford will be paid as if he Cole Hamels Authentic Jersey will do it, however, and at a high level. From a roster standpoint, the Titans entered this week relatively stacked at cornerback. They had 2017 first-round draft pick Adoree Jackson on one side and 2017 free-agent acquisition Logan Ryan on the other. Butler received an enormous market-level contract that includes $30 million guaranteed. It gives the Titans arguably the league's top three-corner personnel group, but it also focuses a premium level of assets at a position that generally is considered second fiddle to pass-rushers in comprising a strong pass defense.
But if any team knows what it will get from Butler in exchange for that financial commitment, it should be the Titans. General manager Jon Robinson and coach Mike Vrabel both have deep ties to the New England Patriots, where Butler spent his first four seasons.

Ted Thompson, than anyone thought and doesn’t sign any impact free agents. That would leave him with major holes to fill through the draft. Yes, Gutekunst has 12 selections this year, but with holes in the secondary and at pass-rusher, plus the needs on offense (tight end, offensive line and perhaps even receiver), that’s too much to find in the draft. -- Rob Demovsky

Of all Cousins’ potential suitors, the Vikings are his best fit to win now. Minnesota arguably has a two- to three-year window to contend for a Super Bowl with a stacked defense, tons of receiving threats and what could be one of the best backfields in
the NFL. All of that is part of a dream scenario for Cousins, whom the Vikings wouldn’t necessarily have to lock in for more than three years -- at least not right now. Therefore, the risk of things going sour won’t be weighed down by a lengthy contract. The cost for Cousins is high, but the Vikings have the cap space to get it done, can secure an important missing piece and find their franchise quarterback in the process.
Worst case: Minnesota strikes out on Cousins and has to look elsewhere for a quarterback in free agency. The Vikings have a pretty good silver lining as it stands with the option to re-sign Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater or Sam Bradford. Keenum will be the most expensive of the three, but the price to keep him pales in comparison to signing Cousins. The Vikings could then go out and make competitive offers to other free agents in spots they need help the most: the offensive and defensive lines. Not signing Cousins would certainly be a blow, but it frees up money Minnesota needs elsewhere in free agency and to extend the contracts of several key players over the next year. Also, this year’s quarterback draft class is one of the best in recent history. Who’s to say Minnesota won’t want to go another route and draft (possibly via trading up) a quarterback in April? -- Courtney Cronin
Best case: Find help at guard. The Falcons don't have much cap room to make a big splash in free agency, but they would be wise to see what type of bargains they could find on the offensive and defensive lines. Upgrading at right guard is a priority, and finding that player in free agency would give the Falcons the opportunity to focus on defensive line, wide receiver and tight end in the draft. Again, this can't be a big splash like Andrew Norwell from Carolina, but the Falcons could find an under-the-radar guy capable of starting, maybe like a Kevin Pamphile from Tampa Bay. The Falcons already restructured the contract of their returning starting left guard, Andy Levitre.
Worst case: Strike out on pass-rush help, period. The Falcons need more of an interior push along the defensive line, and losing a chance to trade for Michael Bennett -- now a Philadelphia Eagle -- hurt some. Now the Falcons have to consider re-signing last season's sack leader, Adrian Clayborn, to help Vic Beasley Jr., Grady Jarrett and Takk McKinley. Clayborn is certain to draw some interest on the free-agent market if not immediately re-signed. Whiffing on veteran pass-rush help would make finding an impact defensive lineman more of an emphasis in the draft. -- Vaughn McClure
Best case: The Panthers acquire the Ravens' Mike Wallace or Jacksonville’s Allen Robinson. Coach Eric Decker Womens Jersey Ron Rivera wants a veteran wide receiver to provide leadership to a position loaded with young players. Wallace, 31, fits the bill. He wants a chance to win a Super Bowl. Carolina could offer that. Wallace Eric Dickerson Jersey had three touchdown catches of 50 or more yards last season and might have had more if quarterback Joe Flacco had been on target. Robinson, 24, wouldn’t necessarily provide veteran leadership, but he could be the true No. 1 receiver the Panthers need.
Worst case: Rams wide receiver Sammy Watkins has yet to live up to expectations since being drafted by Buffalo in 2014 with the fourth overall pick. The Bills traded him to Los Angeles in August. Injuries have played a role in Watkins’ development. While he wouldn’t offer the veteran leadership, he could be a No. 1 or 2 with Devin Funchess, depending on what Carolina ultimately decides to do with Funchess. Seattle’s Paul Richardson also could fit into that mold. -- David Newton
Best case: The Drew Brees contract negotiations come together as smoothly as everyone has promised they will and he re-signs before other teams even get the chance to tempt him. The Saints don’t necessarily need the future Hall of Famer to agree to a “hometown discount,” but they have made it clear they only want to pay Brees one year at a time now that he is 39. They're hoping he’ll agree to a deal with only about one year’s worth of guaranteed money. Then, to make things even better, the Saints reunite Brees with one of his all-time great targets by re-signing tight end Jimmy Graham in free agency at a reasonable rate.
Worst case: The Saints don’t plan to bring back their other prominent free agent (safety Kenny Vaccaro). But they would like to keep versatile backup offensive lineman Senio Kelemete, who might get yanked away by another team offering a starting job and starter’s money. And New Orleans would love to re-sign defensive end Alex Okafor, provided he remains on pace for a healthy return from an Achilles tear. The worst-case scenario would be losing both of those guys, then getting outbid for all of the top tight ends in the open market (Graham, Trey Burton, Tyler Eifert, etc.). -- Mike Triplett
