As heavily as the Jags were criticized by people like me for handing Bortles a fifth-year option on his deal, it might end up working out brilliantly for Jacksonville. If Bortles does leave, some team is going to take a shot on his athleticism and success in 2018. He's an obvious fit for the Cardinals, who liked him coming out of UCF and need someone with athleticism and arm strength in Bruce Arians' downfield passing attack. The Bills, who covet a traditional pocket passer, also could look Bortles' way given that the 25-year-old is essentially the polar opposite of Tyrod Taylor.

The Vikings are going to the playoffs with three quarterbacks on their roster who will likely start multiple games in 2018, and none of them are under contract for next season. Of the three, it seems easiest to eliminate Bradford, even if he arguably has the most upside. Teams with aspirations of competing, like the Dolphins and Giants, could look at Bradford as a starter if they dump their incumbents. The Browns could even go after Bradford as a bridge quarterback to give whomever they take with the first overall pick time to hide from coach Hue Jackson.

Or do you let another team take the gamble, re-sign Bridgewater, and try to convince one of the quarterbacks with a longer track record of success to come play with a perpetually dominant defense and two of the best wideouts in the league? Minnesota has so many mouths to feed on defense and along that offense that it might need to pay its quarterback next to nothing to keep everyone else around.

Washington might consider dealing for Smith if it loses Cousins. Smith would be a perfect fit for the Jaguars if they move on from Bortles because of what they're looking for from a quarterback. He'd also fit the Vikings' current scheme if they don't end up keeping any of the passers they have on the roster.
As someone who has been skeptical of Bortles for virtually his entire career, let me echo the sentiments you've read elsewhere: He's playing fantastic football. The numbers are great -- over his past three games, Bortles leads the league in yards per attempt (9.9), passer rating (128.6) and Total QBR (85.5) -- and they're matched by how he looks on the field. Bortles' numbers in the past were a product of garbage-time chucks to Allen Robinson. Robinson is not around, and even with Marqise Lee sidelined last week, Bortles was dropping perfect throws into guys like Keelan Cole and Jaydon Mickens. Bortles deserves all the plaudits he's getting. The 2018 offseason is shaping up to be a fascinating game of quarterback musical chairs. During a typical offseason, we usually see about seven teams either replace their current passer or draft a player who they expect to eventually take over as their long-term quarterback. Excluding the injuries that forced the Colts and Dolphins to make moves before the 2017 season, there were six teams -- the 49ers, Bears, Browns, Chiefs, Jets and Texans -- that dramatically changed their quarterback calculus this past offseason.
By the time this offseason is over, we could see as many as 11 teams change either their current or long-term QB1. And that's assuming we don't get any veteran retirements or teams like Kansas City trading up to grab a quarterback a year or two before anyone expected. There are six teams that are all but guaranteed to come up with a new answer under center. That's rare.
What's even rarer is the crop of quarterback options available. Players who don't normally hit the market might be available this offseason, which could very well lead to some massive, franchise-shifting bets. Front offices will simultaneously be scouting a quarterback class that could include as many as five signal-callers worthy of a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft. If you're planning on finding a new quarterback over the next several seasons, this is probably the year in which to make your move.
Teams will have to prepare to pursue multiple quarterbacks on several fronts and be willing to settle for their second or third choice. As we break down the veteran market to come in order of how the league would perceive their desirability, though, it all starts with the rarest commodity: a franchise quarterback in the prime of his career who might be available for free.
This doesn't really ever happen. Teams find passers in free agency who slip through the cracks, like Tyrod Taylor. Peyton Manning hit the market after what could have been career-ending neck surgery. The last time we saw a quarterback as productive as Cousins hit the market before turning 30 was when Drew Brees left the Chargers after the 2005 season. Even then, though, Brees was coming off a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, one which famously led the Dolphins to choose Daunte Culpepper over the guy who would subsequently make his Hall of Fame case in New Orleans.
The http://www.officialmarinershop.com/Randy_Johnson_Jersey big question is whether Washington goes where no team has gone before under the current CBA and keeps Cousins off the market with a third franchise tag. Doing so would guarantee Cousins $34.5 million for 2018, adding up to a total of $78.4 million over those three franchise tags. Washington could theoretically afford to eat the cost of a third tag, but it would only push the Cousins problem a year into the future and make Cousins the most expensive quarterback on paper by a significant margin, given that no other passer has a 2018 cap hit over $26.5 million.
General manager Bruce Allen also could slap Cousins with the transition tag, which would lock him in for a more palatable $28.8 million next season. The problem is that the transition tag doesn't offer any compensation and would open up Washington to a bevy of offers from teams with far more cap space than what Washington will have.
The Jaguars, for example, could cut quarterback Blake Bortles, running back Chris Ivory and receiver Allen Hurns, and restructure defensive San Jose Sharks Jersey tackle Malik Jackson's deal, and carve out $72 million in cap space. They could offer Cousins a deal with a huge 2018 roster bonus and base salary and eat an enormous cap charge in excess of $50 million in doing so, which Washington wouldn't be able to match without gutting the rest of its team. Washington could simply sign Cousins to a long-term deal, but given that its offer from July wasn't competitive, it's tough to see why its stance would have changed.
Simultaneously, though, the market for Cousins looks totally different than it did a year ago. After the 2017 offseason, it seemed like the two teams that would compete for Cousins in free agency were a pair of NFC West rivals, with both the 49ers (Kyle Shanahan) and Rams (Sean McVay) hiring a pair of ex-Washington offensive coordinators. Now, with Jimmy Garoppolo and Jared Goff both playing like stars, those teams are out of http://www.bearsnflofficialproshop.com/pat-odonnell-jersey-for-sale-c-45.html the quarterback market.
Plenty of teams will be interested in Cousins, but leaving Washington might not seem to be Johnny Gaudreau Womens Jersey quite as compelling without a familiar face in charge. Act like a club that’s prudently planning for the future instead of a club that thinks year-to-year and considers a postseason appearance -- no matter how brief -- the end that justifies the means.
That’s not to say that the Orioles should pull the trigger just for the sake of pulling the trigger. When they decided to cling to Britton at the trade deadline last year, it was presumably because the front office felt it wasn’t getting enough in return. And that was their right. THE DAY AFTER the Lakers take Lonzo Ball with the second pick of June's Eddie Lacy Womens Jersey draft, Lakers president Magic Johnson is holding court. It's the usual news conference introducing a new prospect, but this one projects a different tone. This is Johnson's first occasion as the czar of the Lakers' next golden age.
The event takes place on the practice court at the team's old training facility, the last relic of the Kobe Bryant era. And it's here that Johnson tells Lonzo, "I'm going to put a little pressure on you right now." Magic points to the back of the gym, where the uniforms of Lakers legends -- his among them -- hang on the wall. "We expect a Ball jersey hanging up there one day, all right?"
Looking one part hostage, one part valedictorian, Ball sits between Johnson and Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka -- who just the night before had declared Lonzo a "transcendent talent." Ball, having T. J. But when insiders are asked whether Ball can meet the Lakers' expectations, their praise pivots to a series of disclaimers. Should Ball never evolve into a prolific scorer, he would have to transform into a species that's nearly extinct -- the score-last All-Star who relies on vision over pyrotechnics. And to live inside it for a few hours is to gain a firsthand appreciation for how tantalizing the package is, the sight lines no person with binocular vision should rightly have. He is, in a phrase, a passing savant. But here's the thing about passers: You're only as good as your finishers.

They were until last Friday, when they announced that a law firm would investigate allegations of workplace misconduct by owner Jerry Richardson. On Sunday, Sports Illustrated published a major investigative piece revealing why. That night, Richardson announced his intention to sell. On Monday, he stepped away from the franchise's daily operations and named Tina Becker its chief operating officer. That's a whirlwind.
Richardson is 81 years old. Wouldn't he have sold soon anyway? Perhaps. His sons stepped away from the franchise in 2009, and it was unclear whether Richardson wanted the Panthers to remain with his family after his death. It's possible that the revelations simply accelerated a previously made decision to sell.
Richardson said in a statement that he wouldn't commence Andy Pettitte Jersey the sale process until "after the very last game is played." The Panthers have not clinched a playoff spot with two weeks to play, so it's possible that bids could start coming in as early as the first week of January.
How does the bidding process work? Any person or potential group can submit a bid, negotiate a price and sign a preliminary purchase agreement. Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and current NBA star Stephen Curry have said they want to join the group.
Another name to surface is Edward DeBartolo Jr., who transferred ownership of the San Francisco 49ers to his sister in 2000 because of involvement in a corruption case. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016. Is it one of those two guys?No. There will be many more suitors. Some of their names will never be publicized, and it's possible that the identity of the winning bid might not surface until the purchase agreement is signed. The percentage of kickoffs returned has dropped since but by just a few points -- which might have happened anyway, given how placekickers keep getting stronger. Last year's opening weekend showed the range of possibilities. Under the NFL's definition of a catch, the league was right to take away what looked to be a game-winning Jesse James touchdown catch at the end of Sunday night's Patriots-Steelers game. There are still unanswered questions -- notably, if the call was as easy as the explanations of Alberto Riveron and Tony Corrente Joe Flacco Womens Jersey have suggested, why it took what felt like 10 minutes to overturn the call -- but everyone on the league side of things seems to agree that the review was processed properly and led to the correct call.

Let's make arguments for three very different types of changes to the much-hated catch rule.
While the NFL's catch rules certainly aren't perfect, they've evolved the way they have for a reason. Tangible in-game examples (like the Bert Emanuel rule) have driven practical changes to the laws over time. They're never going to fix the problem and make everyone happy all the time, but no rule on paper is ever going to address every possible in-game catch situation. As a result, the league needs to be proactive about monitoring how the rule is impacting games and be comfortable making changes every year or two accordingly.
With that in mind, the league's catch rule isn't really all that bad over the first 99.9 yards of the field. Most of the complaints we've seen over the past few years, starting most memorably with the Dez Bryant catch, revolve around touchdowns and would-be touchdowns. Those plays are always going to stand out in the mind because of their importance, but they're also where the current rules seem to fall apart.
The Calvin Johnson rule, so called for taking a touchdown away from one of the league's star wide receivers in Week 1 of the Paul Martin Jersey 2010 season, simply doesn't work. It leaves too much up for interpretation and offers little clarity
into what receivers actually need to do to ensure a touchdown. James' catch fell short because he failed to, as Corrente described, "survive the ground." Nobody likes this rule outside of the one game every three or four seasons in which it benefits their team. DETROIT -- Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains hinted that Mitchell Trubisky might have the green light to challenge Detroit's secondary on Saturday.
The Bears have been relatively conservative with Trubisky much of the season, but the offense loosened up in last week's 33-7 victory against Cincinnati. Trubisky passed for 271 yards (25 of 32) and one touchdown in what most consider the best all-around performance of his rookie season.

Of course, the Lions (7-6) are a different animal -- literally and figuratively. Detroit is still very much alive in the NFC playoff picture, and they've successfully defended their home field against the Bears since 2012. Trubisky, however, completed 18 of 30 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and rushed for 53 yards in the Bears' 27-24 loss to Detroit on Nov. 19. Trubisky believes he can build off the first meeting against the Lions.
"It will be good because we've got a lot of film on them, especially from the matchup we played them," Trubisky said. "So preparation is very important this week, just getting a good tell on them, what they've been running. So really first, second down and third down is going to be crucial. We want to stay on the field to again convert third downs and come away with more points. Last time a couple times the penalties got us and that one turnover. CLEVELAND -- After LeBron James posted his 59th career triple-double and held off a pesky Los Angeles Lakers team, several players from both teams gathered near midcourt. Ball grew up idolizing James, and here was the best player on the planet taking time to talk to the rookie and sharing something that Ball already was holding on to dearly. "None of y'all business," James said when asked what he said. Not even the polite Ball would reveal the conversation, saying, "He didn't tell me anything."
One thing is clear: James likes Ball. In Cleveland, he made nine of his first 10 shots and had 23 points in his first 25 minutes. He did his usual attacking of the rim, but also hit a couple of 3s and stop-and-pop midrange jumpers. And on one impressive play, Ball grabbed a defensive rebound and immediately flicked a rainbow bomb up the court to a streaking Ingram for a layup.
Ball was even hitting some of his shots from the perimeter, knocking down 3 of 8 3-pointers. During one stretch in the third quarter, he hit a 3, Ingram knocked down a 3, and then Ball buried another trey.

But it can't be their final move, either. The theme of baseball's offseason has been deliberation. Lots of smoke, but little fire. Lots of whispers, but few declarations. The Cardinals, along with the Giants, have been among the NL's most aggressive in their winter expeditions, though each had little to show for it. But after missing out on big fish Giancarlo Stanton, the successful reeling in of Ozuna has put St. Louis back in the conversation.

But consider the possibilities of what happens if Harper does leave. The likely favorites to land him would be the Cubs and Dodgers, with the AL's Yankees and Red Sox figuring in, as they always do. There would be other teams emerging to try to make a run -- the Phillies stand out as a possibility -- but the outcome could be a nightmare scenario for anyone hoping for near-term parity in the National League.
Who would be left to challenge the Cubs and Dodgers? Adam Wainwright is 36 and Miles Mikolas, signed from Japan, is a promising but unproven new piece to the rotation. Top prospect Alex Reyes will have to be eased back in after elbow surgery. To validate that newfound strength, the Steelers must combat Brady's ability to change the pace of the offense. Tomlin considers that an "awesome" part of Brady's game, especially when fully stocked with an arsenal of running backs who can take handoffs or line up wide. The Steelers struggled with Brady's no-huddle offense last year in Foxboro, something defensive end Tyson Alualu, a former Jacksonville Jaguar, understands.
