Top Casino Dividends to Buy Now A decade ago, the casino industry wasn't a place investors would look for a dividend of any kind, much less a dividend that could be in their portfolio for decades. But the industry is now generating so much cash and has so few opportunities for expansion that it's bursting with money. casino affiliate program Some of the biggest names in the industry are now paying dividends that are steadily growing each year, and I think Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS), Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ:WYNN), and Gaming and Leisure Properties (NASDAQ:GLPI) boast dividends any investor should be interested in right now. The biggest casino company in the world is Las Vegas Sands, which owns resorts in Las Vegas, Macao, and Singapore. It may be headquartered in Las Vegas, but make no mistake that this is an Asia-focused company. Eighty-eight percent of its adjusted EBITDA, a measure of cash flow coming from a resort and casino, came from Asia in the second quarter, and that's consistent with its performance the past few years. You can see above that EBITDA can be lumpy over time, but long-term there are billions per year coming out of the company's casinos. This cash flow is ultimately what pays the dividend, which currently yields 5.8%. What makes Las Vegas Sands such a great dividend stock today is that it has very few places to put the cash it generates to work besides investors' pockets. Macao and Singapore are now mature markets that only allow minimal investment, and the company doesn't have big expansion plans in Las Vegas. Outside of a $3.3 billion expansion in Singapore, Las Vegas Sands doesn't have any large capital commitments, and that will keep the dividend flowing for the foreseeable future. Wynn Resorts operates in Las Vegas and Macao like Las Vegas Sands, but it's been spending more to expand its operations recently. The $2.6 billion Encore Boston Harbor opened this summer and a $400 million convention expansion will open in Las Vegas early next year. On top of U.S. projects, there are plans for another $2 billion expansion at Wynn Palace in Macao. Wynn Resorts has been able to grow and pay a 3.8% dividend yield without adding debt because of the cash flow it generates from Las Vegas and Macao. What's great about Wynn Resorts today is that we should see EBITDA rise over the next few years as new resorts ramp up, and that will help its ability to grow the dividend. Encore Boston Harbor is just getting started, the Las Vegas expansion is still a few months away, and Macao's build-out won't be done for a couple of years. If you want a growing dividend in casinos, this is a good bet. Betting on casinos can be a risky endeavor for investors because factors like luck on the casino floor and the economy can swing revenue and EBITDA wildly over time. But stocks like Gaming and Leisure Properties are a lot more stable because it's a real estate investment trust (REIT) that owns the real estate the casino operates in. Gaming and Leisure Properties started as an offshoot of Penn National Gaming, but it's become a favorite REIT for regional casino companies to tap when they need financing. Pinnacle Entertainment used the REIT to pull money out of its operations before ultimately being acquired by Penn National. Eldorado Resorts used the REIT to acquire the real estate under Tropicana Entertainment's properties as part of its acquisition of the company last year. As a REIT, Gaming and Leisure Properties has to pay out 90% of what it earns, and that's driving a 7.1% dividend yield today. If you're looking for a way to invest in the casino industry without betting on a risky casino stock, this is a great way to do it.

The Online Casino Boom China Is Struggling to Halt It’s 6:30 on a Monday morning in China, and the Guangdong Club online gambling platform is humming as a stream of wagers placed in Chinese yuan flows through the portal. The club, which lists its place of registration as Costa Rica, hosts operators offering hundreds of sessions for such popular games as baccarat and blackjack, lotteries, and sports betting—many of them in Chinese. A single baccarat table can draw betting volumes touching 75,000 yuan ($10,500) in a 30-second game.affiliate program This is gambling with a digital twist, and it allows Chinese to bet without traveling to Macau or Las Vegas. It’s also a growing problem for China’s Communist Party, which says the transactions are draining hundreds of millions of yuan from the country. Beijing views betting as a vice that fuels social unrest, and Chinese law prohibits gambling on the mainland—including online. But the anonymity the internet affords has Chinese bettors flocking to digital gaming halls. They’re fueling growth in Asia’s online gambling sector, which is expected to reach $24 billion in sales this year, according to market researcher Technavio. Nevada Casinos Top $1B in February Despite Decline Yesterday the Nevada Gaming Control Board provided its monthly revenue report, showing the state's casinos collectively realized $1.012 billion in revenue in February, a small dip of 0.62 percent year-over-year.most popular casinos The slight revenue decline in February followed a larger decrease of a little more than 3 percent in January when revenue totaled just over $984M. Like a poker player feeling satisfaction after reaching an otherwise arbitrary milestone chip-wise, crossing the ten-figure threshold helped encourage positive reactions to the report. "All things considered, whenever we record a billion dollars in gaming win we are very pleased, although for this month that still resulted in a very small decrease statewide," said Michael Lawton, senior analyst with the Nevada Gaming Control Board, as reported in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The win amount for casinos in downtown Las Vegas were up 9 percent for the month, while those on the Strip were down just under 2 percent when compared to a year ago.Lawton highlighted a lower baccarat win as having affected the overall revenue total. "Baccarat was off 25.5 percent or $45.2 million due to volumes being down 18 percent on a hold of 12.77 percent vs.14.05 percent last year," he explained, adding as well how baccarat revenue has been down seven of the last eight months despite volumes being down approximately 1 percent over that period.Meanwhile Nevada sportsbooks took in more this February when compared to a year ago, winning $35.8 million in February, a big 235 percent jump from the year before. Both basketball betting and a better outcome on the Super Bowl helped the books this time around. As usual U.S. lawmakers in various states were weighing in on gambling-related legislation this week. You might have heard about West Virginia's online gambling bill having become law after passing through both houses and not being vetoed by the governor. Read more about that development in "West Virginia Legalizes Online Poker." In Indiana lawmakers removed mobile sports betting from a gambling bill this week among other revisions concerning licenses and operators. The new bill which passed through a Senate committee only allows sports betting at casinos, racinos, and satellite facilities, reports the Indianapolis Business Journal. A House committee is now taking up that bill as it makes it way through the legislative process. Meanwhile over in Tennessee prospects appear less sanguine for a sports betting bill. While the bill has bipartisan support, opposition is being expressed from both sides of the aisle as well, according to the Tennessean. While a House committee continues to argue over it, a Senate committee has delayed looking at it all to this point.

two new casinos opened in Atlantic City A year after two new casinos opened in Atlantic City, the seaside resort’s gambling and sports betting revenue is up nearly 8%, and its top casino had its best month ever.Figures released Wednesday by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show the casinos took in $323 million, an increase of 7.8% from July 2018.month recommend casino That’s when the city’s two newest casinos, Hard Rock and Ocean, were in their first full month of operation. July’s figures were the first true apples-to-apples comparison in a year of how the Atlantic City casino market had been doing. But perhaps the biggest news of the month was a record-setting performance from the Borgata, which has long been Atlantic City’s top casino. It took in nearly $88 million in casino and sports betting revenue, the most it ever had won in a single month. That’s an increase of nearly 15% from a year earlier. It came during the first full month of operation of a $12 million sports betting and entertainment project the casino opened. "Playing lucky in table games, complemented by healthy July volumes, led to Borgata enjoying an all-time record in total gaming revenue," Marcus Glover, the casino's president and chief operating officer, said in an emailed statement. The Ocean Casino Resort took in $20.1 million from gamblers in July, up 18% from a year earlier, when it was in its first month of operation. "We are very pleased with the continued profitability and growth of the property," said Michael Donovan, Ocean's senior vice president and chief marketing officer. July, he said, marked the best month in the casino's history for gross and net slot revenue and hotel occupancy, including the two-plus years it operated as Revel. The figures illustrate the recovery Atlantic City's casino industry has undergone in recent years. Just three years ago, the Hard Rock's predecessor, the Trump Taj Mahal, shut down, marking the fifth of the 12 Atlantic City casinos that operated in 2014 to go out of business. The reopenings of Taj Mahal as Hard Rock and Revel as Ocean have restored several thousand jobs and boosted casino revenue, even as profits collectively fall for the resort, which now has more competitors than it did just a few years ago.But the numbers also indicate potential problems for the three Atlantic City casinos owned by Caesars Entertainment, which was recently acquired by Eldorado Resorts, the owner of the Tropicana. The newly combined company owns four Atlantic City casinos, including the three Caesars properties — Caesars, Bally's and Harrah's — and there has been speculation the company may seek to divest itself of one or more of its New Jersey properties. Hard Rock has seized the No. 2 spot in the Atlantic City market. It took in $40.7 million in July, an increase of nearly 25% from its first month a year ago. The Golden Nugget won $34.5 million in July, up 17.4%; Tropicana won nearly $33 million, which was down 11% from a year ago; and Harrah's, which has fallen to the No. 4 spot after being second to Borgata for years, won just under $30 million, down 5% from a year ago.

add to favorites Mother-in-law wears wedding dress to her son wedding Cars
Mother-in-law wears wedding dress to her son's wedding, but not for the reason people Everyone knows that only the bride is supposed to wear white to a wedding, but apparently, one mother-in-law didn’t know that only the bride is supposed to wear a bridal gown. When Jimmy Fallon asked people to post their best wedding fails, Amy Pennza showed off a truly awkward photo. It showed her, on her wedding day, in her wedding dress, standing next to her mother-in-law, who was also wearing a wedding dress. She started off describing the wedding day, posting, “I didn't know what my mother-in-law planned to wear. I didn't think to ask. The morning of the wedding, all the women in the bridal party cram into a tiny room in the church. You know, body glitter and hairspray everywhere. Fifteen coats of mascara. Putting napkins under your pits so you don't sweat on your dress.”www.eisenge.com When the mother showed up in the dress, Pennza initially didn’t know how to react. According to her, “I don't remember much about the day. Most people say their wedding is a blur, and that's true for me, too. But I know I said this: ‘You... You could be the bride...’ Later, my sister (matron of honor) said she didn't pull me aside and talk about it because she hoped I was too distracted to notice. My college roommate (bridesmaid) said the same thing. But secretly, they both spent the reception looking at me, then each other, then MIL, then me, then the cop the venue made us hire—hoping I didn't go for his taser.” The reason why the dress didn’t cause more drama is because of how the mother-in-law grew up. “She grew up in extreme poverty. As a child, she used to sneak into the kitchen and eat match heads. That's a pica craving, and kids do it when they're malnourished. When you grow up with nothing, it stays with you. Forever, I think. No matter how much money you earn, there's always that little fear in the back of your mind that someone might take it all away.” “However, she's a bargain hunter to the bone,” Pennza continued. “Her money-saving strategies are legend—and often hilarious. At family gatherings, we amuse ourselves telling stories of crazy shit she's done to save money. So when she spotted The Dress at an incredible bargain, she couldn't turn it down. If you ask her now, she says she feels terrible about it. Although, she also told me, ‘I think I've still got it. We should raffle it off.’ So, yeah, the wedding dress was a shock. But it gave me a pretty funny memory. No one who attended has ever forgotten it. And, you have to admit, weddings can be forgettable.” Fortunately, it seems like Pennza doesn’t have any hard feelings about the dress. Also, her mother-in-law apparently isn’t upset about the photo being shared either. “When I told her about this getting a lot of attention, and said I worried it might hurt her feelings, she waved it off. ‘Whatever makes me famous.’”
add to favorites HTTPS Does Not Mean That a Website is Safe Cars
HTTPS Does Not Mean That a Website is Safe On the Internet, there are many spam emails and personal data disclosures. If you ignore your safety and privacy online, you may be the victim of the next data breach or fraud. Thus, you want to know if the website you are visiting is safe or not. This is a good idea, especially before you share sensitive information such as credit card information on a website. Qwer432 There are also many useful ways to check if a website is secure. The vast majority of users check for HTTPS to judge if browsing a site is safe. First, let’s known more about HTTPS and HTTP. HTTPS vs. HTTP HTTPS must be used, regardless of what kind of site it is. HTTPS protects you from man-in-the-middle attacks such as phishing and spoofing by encrypting your data transmission. When you visit a site that uses HTTPS, the browser displays a green padlock in the address bar. Some websites even display the company name next to the URL. These sites are safer than sites with green padlocks because they adopt Extended Validation SSL encryption. This new type of SSL encryption protects communication between the website and the Internet user requesting it. Not all websites use HTTPS. Some websites use the basic protocol – HTTP. What is the difference between HTTPS and HTTP? HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is one of the protocols used for data transfer while surfing the Internet. This is how the client requests and the server responds. When you visit a website through a browser, an HTTP request is sent to the appropriate port on the server. Then, the server answers your request. HTTPS adds an SSL layer compared to HTTP. SSL is a secure protocol that provides security and ensures data integrity for network communication. It protects data from being intercepted during transmission by encrypting the Internet connection. The server using HTTPS must request a certificate from the certification authority that confirms the purpose of the server. The client trusts the host only if the certificate is used on the appropriate server. That is, there is no encryption for transmission on a website using HTTP. All data is transmitted in cleartext. While websites that use HTTPS encrypt the transmission. HTTPS sites are therefore safer than HTTP sites. In addition, the HTTPS protocol must apply for a CA certificate, which in most cases is not free. Users can make a simple assessment of the security of the site by checking that the HTTPS protocol is being used. But you should know that some pages on the same website may not be encrypted by HTTPS. You should look for HTTPS each time you open a new page, especially before you enter sensitive information. Always check if there is an “S” after HTTP will reduce the risk of becoming a victim of data breaches. Does HTTPS mean that a website is safe? When browsing a web site, most users only check the URL and the green padlock quickly to see if it’s a phishing site. However, a website with a green padlock can also be a phishing website that will use your data for malicious purposes. HTTPS only prevents third parties from intercepting, stealing or altering information loaded on the website or sent to the server. f Xudong Zheng, a researcher, pointed out that it is difficult to spot phishing websites by checking the URL. The URL might look like your familiar website, but it’s a different site. For this reason, we recommend that you enter the URL manually if you want to visit some important websites. DO NOT click directly on the hyperlink, otherwise, you will end up with a fake website that looks exactly like the one you know. Before you click on the hyperlink, you can also hover over it with your mouse to display the URL in the lower-left corner of the browser (Google and Firefox). The most important thing is that surfing on an HTTPS website is not always safe !!! Why does the fake website look just like the right one? Xudong Zheng said that some countries or regions used “national languages” in their domain names, including Russia and Bulgaria. Many browsers use Punycode to translate these “local languages” into characters that are readable to the DNS servers. Although you can not see the difference in their URLs, the computer thinks they are different. Conclusion We conclude that HTTPS does not guarantee the security of a website. In addition to the usual ways to verify website security, Google Safe Browsing is also useful. This service is provided by Google to alert users against malicious websites. You can turn it on to avoid visiting malicious sites that have been listed by Google. Above all, you need a VPN to secure your internet connection so that nobody else can track you. The more seeds, the faster the torrent is downloaded. This is another effective way to increase your torrent download speed. Prioritize torrent downloads. In fact, many P2P file sharing programs limit the download speed because you may need to surf the Internet at the same time. Although it is convenient for users to surf the Internet while downloading torrents, it also slows down download speeds. If you do not have relevant requirements, you can prioritize downloading torrents in the settings of the P2P file sharing app. Then you can enjoy a faster download speed. Scan and remove viruses on your computer. Sometimes the slow download speed is caused by a computer virus. Maybe you have not come across such a condition, you can not rule it out. After all, a virus may have a great impact on your computer. To avoid this condition, you can install a virus scanner on your computer to scan for viruses. We recommend that you do this by rebooting your computer in Safe Mode. If you have detected a virus on your computer, you can remove it to increase the download speed. Turn on the download acceleration. Some peer-to-peer file sharing software and download managers allow users to speed up the download. You can customize this feature in the configuration. Once you’ve enabled download acceleration, you can download torrents faster. Try downloading torrents through some useful P2P file sharing tools. Qwer432 Higher bandwidth. I think you’ve already known that bandwidth is a factor that determines your download speed. In general, the maximum download speed depends on your bandwidth. If you tried the above method and still get a slow torrent speed, you should think about increasing the bandwidth. Use a VPN. If your ISP detects large files being downloaded and throttles your bandwidth, you will not be able to download torrents fast. To prevent your ISP from throttling you, you must be connecting to a VPN. Besides, using a VPN service can also secure torrenting. Get started with RitaVPN now! You can always trust a reputable VPN to unblock websites. Restart your device Although this approach seldom solves your problem, it is still a good idea if your problem is caused by system or network failure. It is also the easiest way to fix the most common issues. In addition, you can try to close some software that may affect the connection, such as firewall, P2P download and other software.  Change the network In some regions, your Internet service provider is more likely to interfere with your Internet connection. Of course, switch to another ISP is troublesome if you are using a VPN on your computer. But you can easily switch from the home WiFi network to the mobile network if you are connecting a VPN server on your phone. Changing the network will effectively prevent this ISP from interfering with your Internet connection. Set up VPN auto redial If none of the above solve your problem, setting up VPN auto redial is the last solution. To reduce the impact of VPN connection drops, you can adjust the settings to reconnect the VPN automatically. Some VPN apps support VPN auto redial so that you can enable VPN auto redial in the app directly. If your VPN doesn’t support it, you need to use the VPN auto redial provided by the system. You can not only turn on this feature but also set a time to reconnect your VPN. add to favorites Can My Home WiFi be Hacked? Cars
Can My Home WiFi be Hacked? As long as your data is valuable, there is a chance that your home WiFi gets hacked. The most effective way to avoid this is to use a VPN encrypted connection, as is the case in most companies. Hacking WiFi is an easy job for the hacker. Many techniques can be exploited by them to perform an attack on your home WiFi. Generally, there are five commonly used hacking methods, including password cracking, social engineering attacks, WPS PIN attacks, remote access attacks and rogue access points. WPS PIN attack WPS PIN attacks have been widely used since they were discovered. The attack completely bypasses the password set for the router because the password authentication is not properly set. So the hacker can easily get into your WiFi network. Rogue access point A rogue access point is built on a WiFi network without explicit authorization from a local network administrator. Password cracking Password cracking is a proven way to break into a WiFi network. WiFi with an easy-to-crack password is likely to suffer such an attack. Social engineering attack Unlike other attacks, social engineering attacks are hard to detect. Typically, it works by spoofing users rather than exploiting technical vulnerabilities. Thus, the victim may don’t know that he was attacked. Remote access attack While remote access can be convenient for employees to access resources provided by the company, turning it on by default is a bad idea. Because you will run the risk of a remote access attack. How to prevent your WiFi from being hacked? VPN services are generally useful because they allow you to create encrypted tunnels that prevent others from seeing what you’re doing. It also secures your personal information while you are connecting to public WiFi. If you need to use WiFi and the only option is a network you don’t trust, consider installing a VPN on your phone. In addition to protecting devices connected to WiFi, you can also make it harder for hackers to break into your home network by improving the security of it. Here are some other measures you can take to protect your home WiFi. MAC filtering MAC filtering means that you enable the MAC address blacklist or whitelist in the router’s settings. Of course, whitelisting is more recommended here. Users only need to add the MAC Address of the device they want to connect to the network to the whitelist so that only those added devices can connect to the wireless network. Now that you’ve set up the filter, you might be wondering whether it is impossible for other devices to connect to the network. The answer is no, either. Because once the hacker has successfully cracked your wireless network password and there are active users in the network, the hacker can also try to grab the MAC address in the whitelist by grabbing packets from the network transmission. Next, the hacker just needs to change the MAC address of his device to that from the whitelist. Then, the hacker’s device can successfully connect to your wireless network. Use WPA encryption Since WPA adopts dynamic encryption transmission, the only way to crack it is to use enumeration. But as long as the password is strong enough, cracking it by force takes a long time. It takes at least three seconds to crack a password. If it is a strong 8-bit password that contains both upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols, it should theoretically take about 500 million years to crack this password. If individual users change their passwords every few months, cracking the WiFi passwords is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Users who keep a good habit of changing their passwords regularly won’t be the easy targets of hackers. Hide SSID Hiding SSID means to adjust relevant settings of the router so that the SSID of your wireless network will no longer be broadcast. Your home private network will become an “invisible network”, which can greatly reduce the risk of being attacked by hackers. Currently, mainstream operating systems for PC, including Windows XP/Vista/7/8, as well as macOS, various versions of Linux, and major smartphone OS, such as iOS, Android, and Windows all help you hide the SSID of wireless networks. You only need to manually add the SSID of the network when connecting to it for the first time. Then, the system can automatically remember the relevant information of the wireless network connection and make an automatic connection next time. Now that your network is invisible, you might be wondering whether you are completely safe. The answer is absolutely no. As long as there is communication between the router and the member on your wireless network, SSID can still be detected. But hiding SSID will make it harder for the hacker to crack your network. Given the cost, hackers often target other networks. Qwer432 http://www.vpnsnetflix.net/live-streams/ http://www.vpnsnetflix.net/vpn-reviews/ http://www.vpnsnetflix.net/how-to-guide/
add to favorites What is the Difference Between a Static and Dynamic IP Address? Cars
What is the Difference Between a Static and Dynamic IP Address? Are you using a dynamic or static IIP address? Most Internet users use dynamic IP addresses, as this would result in a significant waste of IP address resources if each user were assigned a static IP. The IP address is a very important network resource. Qwer432 What is an IP? An IP address refers to an Internet Protocol address. The IP address is a uniform address format provided by the IP protocol. Each network and host on the Internet is assigned a logical address to mask the differences in physical addresses. In other words, an IP address for your computer is a phone number for your phone. You can not make calls without a phone number. Similarly, your computer can not connect to the Internet without an IP address. Each computer, tablet, smartphone and Internet-enabled device has its own IP address, which is made up of numbers and periods. The differences between dynamic and static IP Dynamic and static IP are two types of IP addresses. Dynamic IP addresses are different from static IP addresses.  Dynamic means that you are assigned an IP address every time you visit the Internet. While static means that every time you connect to the Internet, you will be assigned a fixed IP address and use the same address forever. Usually, a user will automatically receive a dynamic IP address after dialing the host of the ISP each time, which of course is not arbitrary, but an address within the allowed range of the network ID and host ID applied by the ISP. A dynamic IP address changes each time a device is connected to the Internet, but the IP address remains the same for each connection.  The DHCP server assigns a dynamic IP address when the device attempts to connect to the Internet. Dynamic IP addresses can change each time you connect to the Internet. While a static IP address is distributed by the ISP. A static IP address user can connect to the Internet without receiving an IP address. To summarize, the main difference between static and dynamic IP addresses is that static IP addresses are fixed addresses that have been manually assigned by network administrators to different devices, while dynamic IP addresses are automatically assigned to devices by DHCP servers. Do dynamic and static IP Addresses have an impact on Internet speed? The Internet speed that an ISP offers to each user is limited by the bandwidth provided by the ISP, but not by the IP address. For example, if you have a higher bandwidth from the ISP than your neighbor, you will get a faster Internet speed than your neighbor. In this way, we can see that dynamic and static IP addresses do not affect your Internet speed. Dynamic IP or static IP Because the IP address resource is very valuable, most users use dynamic IP addresses. You can get access to the Internet via modem, ISDN, ADSL, wired broadband, community broadband and so on. You must obtain an IP address each time you connect to the Internet. Of course, you get a dynamic IP address from an Internet service provider (ISP) because dynamic IP addresses are free. Your IP address (dynamic IP address) is extracted from the address pool and assigned to you instead of an IP address (static IP address) that you always own. After a few days, weeks or months, the number will be put back into the pool and you will be assigned a new IP address.  While a static IP address does not cause the above problems. However, you must pay an additional fee for a static IP address. Dynamic IP is an ideal choice for most Internet users because Internet users around the world surf the Internet at a time that is not fixed. This type of IP address is also free and easy to use. While companies providing Internet services require static IP addresses via which users can access their services. Dynamic IP addresses and static IP addresses work together to simplify the management of networks.  Conclusion In summary, dynamic IP addresses are good for most Internet users. You do not need a configuration to use dynamic IP addresses. In addition, it does not cost you extra money to use a dynamic IP address. Sometimes your IP address may reveal your personal information. Dynamic IP addresses are more secure than static IP addresses because they change frequently. It is often the case that moving targets are harder to hit than stationary ones. To prevent others from tracking you through your IP address, you can also use a VPN to mask your IP address. RitaVPN is a good choice. The design of the new Tianjin Teda School In an international competition for the ‘Teda High School in Tianjin, China’, organised by the city of Tianjin, schneider+schumacher have been awarded first prize. Their winning scheme proposes a complete – rather than partial – reconstruction of the school, originally built in the early 1980s.international school in Tianjin This is the second success in China for schneider+schumacher, who run a main office in Frankfurt as well as offices in Tianjin, China and Vienna, Austria. Their other competition-winning proposal for the Civic Center in Hangzhou is about to start on site. The site is centrally located in the city, in Tianjin’s ‘Teda Economic Development Zone’ located in the Binhai District. The current school has already established an excellent reputation and tellingly bears the name ‘Teda No. 1 School’. The brief called for two different approaches. The core concept was to replace just some of the existing buildings with new structures, and to revitalise the remaining buildings. In the other concept, the architects were asked to ignore the existing constraints and consider the consequences of a erecting a totally new building. schneider+schumacher’s design concept unites both these approaches by creating a coherent programme for phasing the construction work. The idea won unanimous approval from both the jury and the local politicians and convinced them to rebuild not just a few of the buildings, but the entire school. The design comprises a single five-storey building of about 63,000 square metres, with a 180-metre long hallway – the school’s ‘backbone’ – acting as a central element linking all the other key areas. This backbone, aside from its role as circulation space, offers a pleasant, informal area where students will be able to meet and talk – a feature that traditional Chinese schools lack. On upper levels, connecting bridges meander through the red walls of the staircase, alluding to ‘Liu Shang Qu Shui‘, a traditional Chinese story about the collective creation, exchange, and transmission of knowledge. The long hallway links together classrooms for a total of 2,700 students, the school cafeteria, the library, an auditorium for 600 people, and the sports hall. In keeping with the surrounding urban texture, these elements are clearly expressed as individual volumes. The elevation’s strict vertical and horizontal glass elements and stone-cladding sets the school visually apart from more typical Chinese school buildings, and the design aims to safeguard the school’s excellent reputation as well as provide a stimulating learning environment for students and teachers.

Asia drives demand for international schools But when Wycombe Abbey, a girls' boarding school in Buckinghamshire, opens its doors in China in September, it will be not be launching a replica. Wycombe Abbey International in Changzhou near Shanghai will be co-educational, and will teach a hybrid of the Chinese and English curriculums within an English-style boarding school environment.Tianjin international school Alongside international GCSEs and A-levels, pupils will follow a Chinese curriculum in mathematics. And it won't be serving international students or UK families in China. Around 90% of the students will be local Chinese. We're catering to the insatiable demand in China for an English-medium education," said Wycombe Abbey's headmistress Rhiannon Wilkinson, who has also taught in Hong Kong and Brunei. "But we are also responding to a need for an English-style education system and Chinese methods," she said. "They don't want to be westernised but they want to apply to western universities."International schools were once a virtual foreign enclave within the host country, a preserve of internationally-mobile expatriate families working for multinational companies. Now more local families are using international schools, where they study A-levels and International Baccalaureates from the UK and Advanced Placement programmes from the US, as a springboard to getting places in UK and US universities. Some parents also want their children to rub shoulders with an international elite and build contacts for a future career. More stories from the BBC's Knowledge economy series looking at education from a global perspective and how to get in touch Another motivation is to escape the relentless drudgery and ferocious competition of a local school system based on rote learning and geared only towards exams. "Families are worried about the pressure of the system on their children," said Ms Wilkinson. There are now about 8,000 international schools around the world, teaching 4.26 million students, according to research by the International School Consultancy. From less than a dozen such schools in each country a decade or so ago, Thailand now has over 172 international curriculum schools, half of them following England's national curriculum. Malaysia has 142, Japan 233, and Singapore - which makes it difficult for foreigners to enrol in local schools - around 63. Myanmar could also become a hotspot - Dulwich College will open there next year. Hong Kong which had 92 such schools in 2000 now has 171. Demand, particularly from local wealthy families is such that virtually all the leading international schools in Hong Kong have waiting lists, says ISC director Richard Gaskell, who is based in Bangkok. Only South Korea has seen a retraction, with some international schools struggling to fill places. But the big story is China. From a dozen schools 15 years ago, China has some 530 English-medium international schools, catering for 326,000 students.

Moved to Shanghai to Work for Disney I moved abroad to Shanghai, China at the end of August 2018. The decision to work and live abroad in Shanghai was motivated by a job opportunity with The Walt Disney Company. I started working for the company in May 2014 as a performer through the college program at Walt Disney World in Orlando. I was intrigued to see how a company as big as Disney functioned in China compared to in the United States. Moving to Shanghai I work as an English teacher for young children through Disney’s extracurricular English program known in China as Disney English. In 2017, China’s extracurricular education market exceeded $4 billion. Many Chinese parents are eager to enroll their children in an extracurricular program to give them a head start in school. Disney English has created their program as a standout among the many other English learning programs throughout China. Shanghai itself is an incredible city. There is a fascinating contrast throughout the city in almost every area. Take, for example, the food. Within the same block, you will likely find carts selling cooked chicken feet, a common street food, and McDonald’s selling some of the exact burgers as in the US. You see the same contrast on the roads, which will be swept by hand with brooms made of bamboo branches, as Teslas and Rolls Royces drive by. It is a unique opportunity to live somewhere growing at a rate as fast as Shanghai, and I’m glad I made the decision to take on the challenge. While many cultural aspects in China including the language and food are still foreign to me, both experiences of working for Disney and living abroad have helped me appreciate how universal many of the classic Disney lessons are. Disney characters and their stories are beloved by the Chinese the same way they are by Americans.

International Programs in Schools Worries Parents For the past two years, Wu Dongmei’s 14-year-old son has been attending a private school in Shanghai that offers an international program that prepares students for higher education abroad. All had proceeded smoothly — until recently, she said.Shanghai private school On Oct. 19, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission summoned the principals of 21 local private schools to explain draft regulations that would restrict international programs in Grades 1 through 9, the years of compulsory education in China. The commission accused schools that had replaced the officially mandated curriculum, which includes classes in political ideology, of “infringing on China’s education sovereignty.” The commission said that under the proposed regulations the authorities would no longer approve the establishment of any new private schools with “foreign influence” and would “bar foreign investment in private schools.” School curriculums would be monitored to ensure that they “uphold national sovereignty and ideology.” Private schools could not be named after foreigners. The rules would not apply to international schools set up primarily to educate foreign students. A woman who answered the telephone at the commission’s office this week said that it was unclear when the new regulations, if approved, might take effect, but that any information would be posted on the commission’s website. The woman declined to give her name. Now Ms. Wu is worried that the programs her son, who is in the ninth grade, is enrolled in might be replaced. “Parents have been talking about the regulations, and some are even prepared to send their kids to schools overseas if there are major changes,” she said in an interview. She asked that her son’s school not be identified, out of concern that it might cause problems for him. Jiang Xueqin, a researcher in Beijing for the Harvard University Global Education Innovation Initiative, said the proposed Shanghai regulations reflected the Chinese government’s concerns about political orthodoxy. “The government has maintained tight ideological control over the universities, and high schools are entirely focused on test preparation, but there has been room for innovation in the grades 1-to-9 system,” Mr. Jiang said. “As the Chinese economy slows and instability grows, the government wants to ensure maximum control in the classroom.” According to the Ministry of Education, 256 private and 225 public schools in China provide international education programs for Chinese students who hope to continue their studies abroad. These typically offer English or other courses students would need to prepare for foreign universities, instead of courses equipping them to take the gaokao, the Chinese college entrance examination. Many private schools also omit the ideological instruction on Marxism and patriotism that is compulsory in public schools.Ms. Wu wondered whether the government might also require such courses in private schools, which have a high degree of autonomy in devising curriculums and teaching methods. “I believe politics should be separated from school education, although I know in China it’s difficult,” she said. Investment in private schools across China has surged in recent decades. Education Ministry data from 2015 showed that China had 10,735 private schools offering grades 1 through 9, with more than 12 million students. That is more than 8.5 percent of all the students in these grades, up from 2.9 percent in 2004. Driving the trend are wealthy families willing to pay for what they see as a higher-quality education. Some real estate developers have promoted private schools as features to help sell apartments. Local government officials have accepted private schools as a way to provide more consumer choice as well as stimulate the local economy, despite concerns that they exacerbate social inequality. “Because private schools offer more money and autonomy” to staff members, Mr. Jiang said, “they’ve been draining a lot of top talent from the public school system. So while private schools promise to shake up an overly bureaucratic school system in China, they do so at the expense of equity and social mobility.” But since President Xi Jinping came to power in 2012, the private and international education sectors have come under greater government scrutiny. In November, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress adopted revisions to a law barring for-profit private schools from offering classes for grades 1 through 9. According to Zhu Zhiwen, a vice minister of education, none of China’s registered private schools are for-profit, and the law only affects those who want to turn their schools into profit-led establishments, the state news media reported. This is not the first crackdown on Western values in Chinese education. At a forum last year on ideological work in universities, Yuan Guiren, then the education minister, warned “never let textbooks promoting Western values appear in our classes.” Later that year, the Communist Party’s propaganda department and the Ministry of Education pushed universities to revive Marxist education.

The boys, wearing matching yellow T-shirts, spend most of the time with a ball each.Exercises focus on control and dribbling, and they are told to use both feet. Towards the end of the hour-long practice, they do one drill where they place the ball in front of them and, without touching it, alternate between left- and right-foot stepovers. It is the sort of manoeuvre that Messi does at pace to tie opposing defenders in knots.
