| Foggy Memories Rincoe Mechman 228 Mesh Kit Hello there again my ECR family. I'm back with another Foggy Memory review for you all today. This time we are gonna be taking a look at the new dual 18650 mod from Rincoe, the Mechman 228 Mesh Kit which has a metal, industrial design. This product was sent to me for review by Rincoe which is very cool of them to provide for us to discuss here today. The Rincoe mechman kit comes in a nice looking looking black box with a glossy picture showing different variations this mod is available in. The Mechman has a few different frame options and color options which I'll explain better when we get to the mod. This model is the Old Glory/Steel Case. On the back side of the box is a contents list giving a run down of the items inside, some warning info and some details about Rincoe. Slide the top of the box and you see the Mechman mod and Mechman tank with accessories like a spare coil, spare bubble glass and o-rings for the tank and micro USB cable. Pull out the tray holding the goodies and the paperwork is below including a manual, warranty card and battery Saftey and a card to instruct people to saturate coils. Coil prep is a good idea and a card I don't see often. The Mechman kit comes with the similarly names Mechman tank which is a 4.5ml mesh Sub-Ohm tank. It comes with a pre-installed 0.25 ohm single coil and a dual mesh 0.20 ohm coil as your spare coil. It comes with a bubble glass pre-installed and a spare bubble glass. When using a mesh coil, your probably gonna prefer a bubble anyways. At the top of this bad boy is a fancy 810 drip tip with o-rings on the drip tip and a sliding top fill port. Two large airflow ports are on the base and adjustable by twisting right or left. After the initial success of the original Manto mod, Rincoe is releasing the Manto S and Manto X mods. Both mods take two 18650 batteries and are rated up to 228 watts. The kits come with the same vape tank, called the Metis Mix Mesh. It’s a threaded top-fill tank with a large capacity of 6 mL that comes with one 0.15-ohm single-mesh coil head, though other coils are slated for later-release. Out of the box, the big deal about the Manto S is how light it is! Standing at 80 mm x 43 mm x 41.5 mm, it’s a pretty small dual-batt mod. Without batteries, it only weighs 64 grams, just about one gram more than the tank. The Manto is made of a lightweight polycarbonate plastic with a rubberized finish. It’s a pleasure to hold and, in case it drops, the material is claimed to have anti-shock capabilities. I’ve dropped mine from waist-high to a hardwood floor – the battery door popped off but nothing happened to the mod itself. The Manto S has a spring-loaded 510 pin that’s gold-plated, and an atomizer platform of about 26 mm. The magnetized battery door is the whole backside of the mod, and it comes off easily and stays on snug. All the batteries I’ve tried fit in the mod tight but not so tight that there’s any damage from scraping, and there’s a handy ribbon in the tray to make battery swapping easy. The buttons and screen are nicely done on this mod. The fire button is a hexagon-shaped glossy plastic that has zero rattle. It’s well placed and has a nice click to it. That means, these cells undergo inflammation, tissue damage, and even cell death. Flavored vapes (aka, e-liquids) were found to be especially damaging to immune cells — specifically, a white blood cells called monocytes. These cells are essential to maintaining a healthy immune system, protecting against bacterial infections, viruses, and fungal infections. Despite the fact that some of these e-liquids are considered safe if ingested, inhaling them can have serious health consequences for vapers. Additionally, the research showed not all vape flavors pose the same risk of lung and cell damage, and combining flavors may be even more dangerous. “Cinnamon, vanilla and butter flavoring chemicals were the most toxic but our research showed that mixing flavors of e-liquids caused by far the most toxicity to white blood cells," explained Dr. Thivanka Muthumalage, the study’s first author, in a press release. A 2015 Reuters poll revealed around 15 percent of U.S. adults use e-cigarettes. But among adolescents, vaping now surpasses smoking, and there’s evidence that e-cigarette use leads to nicotine addiction and future smoking in teens. “The existing data show that e-cig vapor is not merely ‘water vapor’ as some people believe,” said Ahmad Besaratinia, an associate professor at Keck School of Medicine of USC and the study’s senior author. “Although the concentrations of most carcinogenic compounds in e-cig products are much lower than those in cigarette smoke, there is no safe level of exposure to carcinogens.” E-cigs and cancer: Early warning in oral cells Besaratinia emphasized that the molecular changes seen in the study aren’t cancer, or even pre-cancer, but rather an early warning of a process that could potentially lead to cancer if unchecked. The researchers looked at gene expression in oral cells collected from 42 e-cigarette users, 24 cigarette smokers and 27 people who didn’t smoke or vape. Gene expression is the process by which instructions in our DNA are converted into a functional product, such as a protein. Certain alterations in gene expression can lead to cancer. They focused on oral epithelial cells, which line the mouth. More than 90 percent of smoking-related cancers originate in epithelial tissue, and oral cancer is associated with tobacco use. Both smokers and vapers showed abnormal expression, or deregulation, in a large number of genes linked to cancer development. Twenty-six percent of the deregulated genes in e-cig users were identical to those found in smokers. Electronic Cigarettes (e-cigs) are battery-operated devices which heat a liquid that contains nicotine, flavors, and additives and, in some cases, varying amounts of other unknown compounds, which are not regulated by the FDA. Aggressive advertising by e-cigs manufacturers implies these devices are less harmful and represent a “safe” alternative to conventional cigarette smoking. E-cigs reportedly contain less carcinogens than traditional cigarettes, with a predominance of nicotine in e-cig vapors that has led to them being variably called “nicotine delivery devices.” Thus the assumption is that e-cigs cause less lung injury in the healthy user and may help conventional cigarette users to quit smoking. Furthermore, e-cigs are viewed as being potentially safe for asthmatic smokers. Based on these purported safety profiles, e-cig use is increasing at an alarming rate. Despite the increasing use of e-cigs, data on their short- or long-term detrimental effects and toxicity are missing. In addition to the fact that the local heating and “vape” delivery by e-cigs has the potential to deliver substantially higher levels of nicotine to the upper and lower airways, e-cigs also contain formaldehyde, hemiacetals that can form formaldehyde, acrolein, and particulate matter, all of which can be potentially harmful. Furthermore, local delivery of e-cig products to the oropharynx and upper airways has the potential to substantially influence the oral and bronchial epithelium and salivary glands, thus influencing mucus membrane properties, barrier function, and immune responses and responsivity. Indeed, salivary gland dysfunction can lead to periodontal disease, gingivitis, bacterial colonization, and loss of enamel mineralization. These conditions are often encountered in conventional smokers and may be present in e-cig users as well. Similarly, higher nicotine or other product levels may adversely influence upper airway irritability, reflex bronchoconstriction and other key aspects of airway function. Finally, the influence of e-cig products on the alveolar epithelium and the pulmonary endothelium are still under exploration. In a recently article published in AJP-Lung and highlighted in a variety of electronic media, Dr. Petrache and her collaborators demonstrated that nicotine and other components present in e-cigs damaged endothelial cells and increase endothelial permeability in addition to damaging airway and alveolar epithelia: All manuscripts will be reviewed promptly, thoroughly, and fairly by members of the Editorial Board and guest reviewers who are recognized experts in this field. Similar trends have been observed across 3 cross-sectional surveys with data on youth use: the National Youth Tobacco Survey, Monitoring the Future, and the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System.7–9 For the latest data as of 2018, the National Youth Tobacco Survey reported 20.8% of high school students and 4.9% of middle school students currently used e-cigarettes (defined as use of an e-cigarette at least 1 day in the past 30 days)10; for 2017, Monitoring the Future reported 17% of 12th graders, 13% of 10th graders, and 7% of eighth graders currently used e-cigarettes8; while the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System reported 13.2% of high school students currently used e-cigarettes.9 Current e-cigarette use increased considerably among middle and high school students during 2017-2018 (increasing by 78% from 11.7% to 20.8% among high school students),10 increasing overall tobacco use and reversing a decline observed in recent years.7–9 More than 3 million high school students and 570 000 middle school students currently use e-cigarettes.10 E-cigarette use has been documented as highest among boys, non-Hispanic white youth, and Hispanic youth.7,11 E-cigarette use is generally greatest among adolescents and young adults and decreases with age in adults. But the long-term effects of e-cigarette usage, commonly called "vaping," are unknown. Today, researchers report that vaping may modify the genetic material, or DNA, in the oral cells of users, which could increase their cancer risk. The researchers will present their results today at the 256th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS). "E-cigarettes are a popular trend, but the long-term health effects are unknown," says Romel Dator, Ph.D., who is presenting the work at the meeting. "We want to characterize the chemicals that vapers are exposed to, as well as any DNA damage they may cause." Introduced to the market in 2004, e-cigarettes are handheld electronic devices that heat a liquid, usually containing nicotine, into an aerosol that the user inhales. Different flavors of liquids are available, including many that appeal to youth, such as fruit, chocolate and candy. According to a 2016 report by the U.S. Surgeon General, 13.5 percent of middle school students, 37.7 percent of high school students and 35.8 percent of young adults (18 to 24 years of age) have used e-cigarettes, compared with 16.4 percent of older adults (25 years and up). "It's clear that more carcinogens arise from the combustion of tobacco in regular cigarettes than from the vapor of e-cigarettes," says Silvia Balbo, Ph.D., the project's lead investigator, who is at the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota. "However, we don't really know the impact of inhaling the combination of compounds produced by this device. Just because the threats are different doesn't mean that e-cigarettes are completely safe." To characterize chemical exposures during vaping, the researchers recruited five e-cigarette users. They collected saliva samples before and after a 15-minute vaping session and analyzed the samples for chemicals that are known to damage DNA. To evaluate possible long-term effects of vaping, the team assessed DNA damage in the cells of the volunteers' mouths. The researchers used mass-spectrometry-based methods they had developed previously for a different study in which they evaluated oral DNA damage caused by alcohol consumption. Dator and Balbo identified three DNA-damaging compounds, formaldehyde, acrolein and methylglyoxal, whose levels increased in the saliva after vaping. Compared with people who don't vape, four of the five e-cigarette users showed increased DNA damage related to acrolein exposure. The type of damage, called a DNA adduct, occurs when toxic chemicals, such as acrolein, react with DNA.
