To start 2020, Paul George and Nike Basketball will launch his fourth signature shoe, the PG 4. Shown is what is believe to be the first colorway of the PG 4 which comes dressed in a Black, White and Smoke Grey color combination. One of the unique features of the new Nike PG 4 is that the laces are not fully exposed. The model will feature a one-piece mesh upper along with a zipper which will expose the lacing. The medial side also exposes more of the tech underneath which it comes with a webbed lacing system. While not confirmed, the PG 4 is also expected to come with a full length Zoom Strobel which has been used on the KD 12. In addition we have a fuse overlay on the mid-foot which will help with containment. Lastly is a rubber outsole with translucent areas. Currently the first color option of the Nike PG 4 is scheduled to release on January 24th, 2020. At the time of writing a retail price is unknown. It’s hard to imagine now, but just a few short years ago there was nobody wearing low-tops on the basketball court. For years, the Kobe 11 universe was under the impression that you had to have a mid or high top to protect your ankles from sprains and breaks. Since the olden days of models like the Converse Chuck Taylor, adidas Superstar, and Nike Bruin, the low-top silhouette had only been seen sparingly on the court since roughly the mid 1980s. There were a few exceptions—like Michael Jordan wearing the Air Jordan XI Low IE for a few games in 1996, or Mike Bibby in his low-top PE Air Jordans—but somewhere in between, the high-top became protocol, worn by pretty much every basketball player at every level of play. It wouldn’t be until 2008 that the low-top would make its return as a formidable on-court option, when Kobe Bryant and Nike designer Eric Avar changed the basketball sneaker game with the Zoom Kobe IV. If you though that the Kobe 9 elite “Mamba Moment” option on NIKEiD was the last time you were going to see the Nike Kobe 9 Low then we have a nice surprise for all of the Kobe 9 lovers out there. Most of the Kobe 9 releases that we have seen have come in tonal colorways with the exception of some colors on the sole, laces, branding, etc. Well this is nothing like those Kobe 9 Lows of the past. Featuring a Valiant Red on the ornately graphic print on the upper, the colorway on this sneaker looks like something that you may see on the stained glass window of a church. Bright crimson appears on the dynamic Flywire while Metallic Gold accents on the Nike branding serves as a nice finishing touch. Following last month’s iteration of the Nike Kobe 9 for Raptors Throwback Nights by Kevin Xie, the first of the remaining four 20th anniversary games occurred yesterday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, with Raptor guard DeMar DeRozan donning his second pair of fan designed Nike Kobe 9s, thought out by fellow fan, Daniello Tetangco. Made to complement the Toronto Raptors’ 20th anniversary night uniforms, this particular revision of the Nike Kobe 9 iD sports a predominantly White makeup, while contrasting hits of Red are provided on its inner lining, in addition to Black, notably found on the Swoosh logos and its rear, that bears Kobe 9 elite “Derozan” and his jersey number “10” respectively. It’s also worth noting that DeMar will be sending Daniello a pair of his design in his shoe size. Three more Raptors Throwback Nights are left this season, so stay tuned in to Kobe shoes for the unveiling of each remaining pair.
