|add to favorites||Todd Gurley's surging case for MVP, and why the GOAT still has an edge||Pc||
|First, it was Tom Brady vs. Carson Wentz. Then, it was Tom Paul Molitor Authentic Jersey Brady vs. Antonio Brown. Now, after both those superstars went down with injuries, the most obvious competitor standing between Brady and his third MVP award is a record-setting running back. http://www.nflramsofficialonline.com/RAMS-TRUMAINE-JOHNSON-JERSEY Todd Gurley has been absolutely unconscious over the past three weeks. The Rams running back has eight touchdowns during that span, which is more than the entire Browns roster has over its past six games combined.
t has been a stunning season for a player who spent most of 2016 stuck in the mud for a going-nowhere Rams team. The Rams will host the franchise's first home playoff game in California since 1985 during wild-card weekend, and while the turnaround of Jared Goff under the tutelage of Sean McVay has been shocking, it's difficult to imagine the Rams making the playoffs without their workhorse at running back.
Gurley has been great, but should voters really pick him over Brady? Or should the Patriots' signal-caller deserve recognition for the latest in a series of dominant seasons? Let's make the case for why Gurley is likely to receive serious consideration, then pick an MVP favorite with two games and one week left in the season. The five-point plan for Gurley to win goes as follows:
The Associated Press voters are only human. They make their choices in late December, so they're naturally going to be thinking about what Oliver Kylington Authentic Jersey each candidate was doing over the final month of the season. Think about Adrian Peterson, who struggled early in the 2012 season and then ran off nine 100-yard games in 10 weeks to end his season, including a December with two 200-yard games and a 199-yard Jonathan Allen Womens Jersey effort in a playoff-berth-clinching victory over the Packers in Week 17. His final run of the year was a 26-yarder that set up the game-winning field goal and saw him carried off the field by a teammate as the entire crowd chanted "MVP." You couldn't have written a better case for Peterson.
Gurley, meanwhile, got off to a hot start before slowing down as the Rams went with a heavier dosage of their passing attack in November. He failed to average even 60 rushing yards per game in November and scored three touchdowns across four contests. That was in a month in which the Rams dropped 51 points on the Giants and 33 on the Texans before losing to the Vikings and narrowly topping the Saints.
In December, though, Gurley has been a monster. He has specifically peaked over the last three weeks of the season, which coincide with the fantasy football playoffs. Voters obviously aren't going to treat Gurley differently because he won some of them their fantasy leagues, but to put his production in context, the 23-year-old just enjoyed the best fantasy playoffs (Weeks 14-16) in NFL history:
In comparison, while Brady has put together a great season, he's not peaking in December. The future Hall of Famer has thrown six interceptions over his past five games, including a pick-six in Sunday's 37-16 victory over the Bills. Brady had thrown just four picks in his previous 22 starts dating back to his return from suspension in 2016. Bothered by an Achilles injury, Brady has thrown more interceptions (five) than touchdowns in December, with an 81.5 passer rating placing him below Mitchell Trubisky and just ahead of Tom Savage for 19th among qualifying passers this month.
While Gurley was struggling during midseason, Brady was running off one of the hottest stretches of the season, posting a 114.7 passer rating http://www.texansfootballsprostore.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_GREG_MANCZ_JERSEY.html while throwing nine touchdowns without a pick. We probably shouldn't treat games in December as more meaningful in terms of MVP consideration than the ones in previous months, but that's the way voters seem to think about the process, so it would be foolish to ignore Gurley's blistering December season.
Recent history suggests that running backs need to post crooked numbers to overcome the positional bonus handed to quarterbacks and receive even modest MVP consideration. Peterson nearly set the rushing record by running for 2,097 yards in 2012. The previous MVP to come from behind the quarterback was LaDainian Tomlinson, who racked up a staggering 31 touchdowns from scrimmage in 2006, including 28 rushing scores. One year earlier, Shaun Alexander ran for 27 touchdowns. If you want the hardware as a running back, the bare minimum requirement is to have a rushing-yardage total or a touchdown total that starts with the No. 2.
It's tougher for a running back to generate the gaudy numbers of even a decade ago with modern workloads, but Gurley could finish the season with some truly impressive stats. If he scores twice in what is likely to be a shootout with the 49ers on Sunday, Gurley will be the first running back to top 20 touchdowns in a season since Tomlinson in 2006. He holds a seven-touchdown lead over every other player in the league, with no other running back, wide receiver or tight end topping 12 scores.

|Allen didn't have any FBS offers out of high school and had only two after a freshman season at Reedley College. But he landed at Wyoming and became the starter in 2016, and fans of the draft might remember his name from the time when ESPN's Adam Schefter said after the 2017 draft: "There was one personnel director who told me this week that you can put it in the books, Josh Allen will be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft next year."
Scouts look at Allen as a high-end talent, but it's all projection. He has tremendous size and a huge arm, and he made plenty of plays in 2016, when Wyoming had a strong veteran team around him. His numbers http://www.officialshopknights.com/authentic-adidas-68-tj-tynan-jersey didn't show any improvement this season, but his coaching staff and the NFL scouting community seem to blame that on the deterioration of the rest of the Cowboys' roster due to the departures of so many of his weapons prior to the season. What scouts and evaluators see with Allen is elite potential -- the kind for which you're willing to overlook little things, such as a poor season at Wyoming.
Kiper's draft Frank Clark Jersey ranking: No. 3 QB and No. 11 overall prospect. From Kiper's Big Board: "Allen is super raw, but he can really sling it. ... I think Allen's numbers will be much better in an NFL offense with NFL players." McShay's draft ranking: No. 3 QB and No. 15 overall prospect. From McShay's Top 32: "He has an elite arm and frame and can make every throw. The postseason process will be key for him."
Come on. You don't know who Mayfield is? He just won the Heisman Trophy, for goodness' sake. And it's ... well, it's not the first time he has been in the news this year. Mayfield is the interloper on this list -- the scrappy guy who crashed what looked like a big three and made it a big four. His numbers are basically in line with what he put up last season, but doing it again after losing teammates such as Joe Mixon, Samaje Perine and Dede Westbrook to the NFL plus his performance in big games have thrust him into the first-round conversation.
Kiper's draft ranking: No. 4 QB and No. 13 overall prospect. From Kiper's Big Board: "I love him on the field -- he's not afraid to take shots downfield, and he has an underrated arm -- but his size is going to be a question until he gets in front of scouts at the Senior Bowl [he hasn't said whether he'll attend] or the combine."
McShay's draft ranking: No. 4 QB and No. 27 overall prospect. From McShay's Top 32: "The issue for him is that he doesn't have the ideal measurables of an NFL starter, and he doesn't have an elite trait to compensate, like Russell Wilson's scrambling ability or Drew Brees' accuracy."
Jackson is, of course, last year's Heisman winner, and he is a unique prospect due to his remarkable abilities as a runner and a passer. He has eclipsed both 3,400 passing yards and 1,400 rushing yards for the second straight season, and to watch him is to watch a quarterback who can dominate a college game in multiple ways. Defenses have to account for him differently than they do any other quarterback because of his elite speed and dynamic running.
Kiper's draft ranking: No. 7 QB. From Kiper's take on the Heisman finalists: "From the NFL scouts I've talked to, I think teams are going to ask Jackson to work out as a quarterback and a receiver. They want to see if he could make the transition if he didn't develop enough as a QB."
McShay's draft ranking: No. 7 QB and No. 88 overall prospect. From McShay's preseason scouting report: "Jackson needs to continue to improve Anthony Rendon Jersey his accuracy as a passer. That's the bottom line. Right now, he's a phenomenal college quarterback mostly due to his running skills and athleticism."
ackson probably will run a 40-yard dash time at the combine that will be unheard of for a quarterback, and teams will spend the next couple of months trying to http://www.officialauthenticcardinalsstore.com/womens_pat_tillman_jersey figure out what to do with him. If you bring him in, how much work do you have to do to refine his pure passer abilities? Can he help you in the meantime? Will you have to curb his running in order for him to survive in the NFL?
And if you curb his running, does that limit his upside as a high draft pick? There has been at least some chatter about the possibility of a position change if it doesn't work out at quarterback, but his performance at that Womens Addison Reed Jersey position in college surely merits a serious look before teams decide to move on and make him a wide receiver. He and Louisville will take on Mississippi State at noon ET on Dec. 30 in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

|1 pick, the Giants moved closer to locking down the second spot and now have a projected average draft position of 2.3. The 49ers are moving in the opposite direction (6.9), though that is of little concern to them given the emergence of Jimmy Garoppolo. Below is FPI's projected order for the 2018 draft, based on each team's average draft position in the simulations. While each team's current record is listed below, remember that the order is based on the record the model believes the teams will have after 16 games: Feels http://www.officialnetsproshoponline.com/authentic-24-rondae-hollisjefferson-jersey.html like last year we heard a ton of pre-draft talk about how the quarterback class wasn't so great. Turns out it had Deshaun Watson, who was pretty special until tearing his ACL in practice in early November. And Mitchell Trubisky ended up starting for the Bears before it was all over. Heck, DeShone Kizer started for the Browns right away ... although maybe he shouldn't have. Anyway, that was last year. This year's quarterback draft class is the talk of the NFL town. It has been since last offseason. Seriously, at Brice McCain Authentic Jersey the combine last year, teams would moan about the quality of the quarterbacks in the draft and say, "But next year ..." Well, next year is here, so how does it look? There are a couple of SoCal dudes still turning heads, a big guy in Wyoming who makes scouts drool and a Heisman-winning bad boy who may or may not be 6 feet tall. It's a fun group, and will dominate a lot of our attention in the four months leading up to the 2018 NFL draft. So, let's have a bit of a look at where things stand in late December, shall we? We'll include notes from ESPN NFL draft experts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay, plus insight from personnel people in the league. And skip to the end here to see which teams might actually draft one of these QBs in the first round -- there are several possibilities: Rosen caught everyone's attention with a 3,670-yard freshman season in 2015. NFL scouts love the way he looks in the pocket -- his footwork, throwing motion, anticipation and accuracy. After an injury-plagued 2016 season, he rebounded in 2017 with numbers nearly identical to those he put up as a freshman. Injuries set in again, though, and with Chip Kelly and a new coaching staff on the way in, it seems like a sure thing that Bobby Baun Jersey Rosen will enter the draft. He's enough of a prospect to merit consideration at No. 1 overall -- especially if Sam Darnold doesn't come out. Kiper's draft ranking: No. 1 QB and No. 4 overall prospect. From Kiper's Big Board: "I have Rosen over Darnold for now, but it's close, and things could change between now and April. ... There aren't many quarterbacks who can make the throws [Rosen] does." McShay's draft ranking: No. 1 QB and No. 1 overall prospect. From McShay's Top 32: "Rosen is far superior [than Darnold] going through his progressions and has a pretty deep ball. He's a better QB right now, but that doesn't mean he will be down the line." There's some question as to whether Rosen will play against Kansas State in Tuesday's Cactus Bowl (9 p.m. ET, ESPN/WatchESPN), though UCLA's interim coaching staff believes he will. http://www.steelersnflofficialproshop.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_ROOSEVELT_NIX_JERSEY.html After that, and assuming he enters the draft as expected, Rosen will be subjected to a pre-draft process focused mainly on his injury history and some personality questions that have surfaced in media reports. It's almost certain that he will be picked at or near the top of the draft, but if it's a question between him and another highly rated guy, teams will want to check out anything negative that has come up. Darnold couldn't beat out Max Browne as a redshirt freshman in 2016, but when Browne was benched after three games, people in the NFL took notice. There was at least some can-he-do-it-again sense about Darnold early this season, after a dazzling 31-touchdown, nine-interception 2016 season and a fantastic Rose Bowl performance against Penn State. Some early-season struggles in 2017 pointed to the concerns NFL evaluators had (and still have) about his footwork and some of his decision-making. But those same evaluators recognize that USC was affected negatively by graduation and injury issues this season, and the way Darnold has played since Halloween has affirmed what scouts love about his abilities and makeup. It's not certain he will even come out -- and some in the league believe he could benefit from another year in college. But if Darnold does enter the draft, the overall package of potential and college performance makes him a candidate for the No. 1 overall pick. He went first in McShay's debut mock draft. Kiper's draft ranking: No. 2 QB and No. 5 overall prospect. From Kiper's Big Board: "I think Darnold has a chance to be special, and I believe in his talent long term. Darnold has a big frame, makes quick decisions and is an accurate, natural passer." McShay's draft ranking: No. 2 QB and No. 3 overall prospect. From McShay's Top 32: "His accuracy is terrific and he has special intangibles, but there is definitely a question now as to if he'll declare for the draft." |PHILADELPHIA -- The good news for the Philadelphia Eagles is they secured the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with http://www.authenticbrewershop.com/authentic-3-orlando-arcia-jersey.html a 19-10 win against the Oakland Raiders. The bad news is they once again looked shaky while doing so.
For the second straight week, the Eagles found themselves in a dog fight with a bad team. Coach Doug Pederson likened what happened the previous Sunday against the New York Giants -- a nail-biter in which an anemic Giants offense racked up more than 500 yards and 29 points -- to his old days coaching high school ball, when a power team would enter overly confident against a lesser opponent and get caught off guard.
Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz cited a lack of urgency, suggesting his unit had grown accustomed to winning easily and wasn't playing with the same fire from start to finish. Both agreed that these were important lessons to learn before the postseason, and that the Eagles would be better off for having been battle-tested.
Nick Foles completed just 19 of 38 passes for 163 yards with a touchdown and an interception on Monday. He and the Eagles converted just 1 of 14 third downs. AP Photo/Michael Perez Monday night's performance raises the possibility that the team's issues might go beyond the need for a mentality shift.
Last week, the defense was the issue. This time around, it was the normally reliable offense that struggled. Quarterback Nick Foles (19-of-38, 163 yards, TD, INT) came back to earth following a four-touchdown outing against New York.
He was off-target on a number of throws -- including a pair to tight end Zach Ertz deep in Oakland territory that could have put them in control. His high pass on a short throw to Ertz midway through the fourth quarter tipped off Ertz's outstretched hand and was intercepted by safety Reggie Nelson. If not for the defense's efforts, that could have been the game's key moment. Behind Foles, a team that had been red-hot on third down went just 1-for-14 in those situations.
Former starting quarterback Carson Wentz attended a game for the first time since tearing the ACL in his left knee against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14. Using crutches to get around, he joined his teammates on the sidelines pregame before heading to a team box, where cameras showed him taking notes throughout the game. For the first time, his presence on the field was truly missed.
Still, the Eagles found a way to pull the game out -- just as they did against New York the week prior. A Ronald Darby Robyn Regehr Authentic Jersey interception of Derek Carr late in Doug Gilmour Authentic Jersey the fourth quarter set up a go-ahead 48-yard Jake Elliott field goal with 22 seconds remaining, and the defense capped the night with a Derek Barnett fumble return for a touchdown. The win moves them to 13-2 on the season and ensures that they will not have to leave Lincoln Financial Field until a potential trip to Minneapolis in February for the Super Bowl.
The odds are in their favor historically. Since the 1990 format expansion, there have been 54 No. 1 Dawuane Smoot Jersey seeds. Twenty-eight have made it to the Super Bowl (52 percent success rate), and 13 have won it (24 percent). Pederson can rest some of his Kansas City Royals Womens Jersey players in the regular-season finale against the Dallas Cowboys if he chooses, and the Eagles then get to sit back and watch the wild-card round, knowing that the NFC playoffs run through their back yard. Despite the record, they http://www.footballredskinsofficialstore.com/Tress_Way_Jersey have not looked like the team to beat of late. Whether they’re able to click back into gear won’t be known until the divisional round of the playoffs.
The Browns are officially on the clock for the 2018 NFL draft. Hours after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen would prefer to land with the Giants over the Browns, Cleveland mathematically locked up the top pick in next year's draft. It's no secret that the Browns are in desperate need of help at quarterback and that Rosen, along with USC's Sam Darnold, Wyoming's Josh Allen and Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, is a potential first-round pick.
Each week, the Football Power Index (FPI) projects the order of next year's draft by simulating the remainder of the season 10,000 times. Game probabilities http://seahawksofficialnflauthentics.com/cary-williams-jersey_c-431.html are based largely on the model's ratings for individual teams in addition to game location. While we don't need to simulate the season's remaining games to know where the Browns will pick next year, we do for the rest of the top 10.
FPI takes some time to run, but on Sundays we can produce a live projection that includes that day's results but does not incorporate changes to FPI ratings based on that day's performances, which is what you see below. In some cases, the projected draft order will not match the current draft order. That's because FPI is considering the probability of outcomes that haven't yet occurred and, crucially, projecting strength of schedule at the end of the season, since that is a tiebreaker for draft order.

|Bortles is that he has http://www.footballbillsofficial.com/Tredavious-White-Jersey done this over the past three weeks against teams -- the Colts, Seahawks and Texans -- that have been decimated by injuries; you could make one hell of a defense out of the guys who are done for the year across those three teams. Bortles already was playing the best football of his career before this three-game stretch, though, and it's undeniable that he simply looks like a much more Tyrunn Walker Jersey confident and consistent quarterback in terms of his Joe Mixon Jersey decision-making and mechanics than he did previously.
Three weeks ago, though, virtually everybody was signing up Eli Manning for a reunion with Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville next season. Three months ago, we were all sure Bortles was done in Florida. I suspect this will come down to how Bortles performs in the playoffs. If he plays fine and the Jaguars either win the Super Bowl or lose for reasons unrelated to their passing attack, he'll be back. If he reverts to form and lays a Brian Hoyer-esque stinker at home in the wild-card round, though, the Jaguars probably will look to upgrade this offseason.
As heavily as the Jags were criticized by people like me for handing Bortles a fifth-year option on his deal, it might end up working out brilliantly for Jacksonville. If Authentic LaMichael James Jersey Bortles continues to play well, Coughlin will have the ability to evaluate him for a fifth season without having to commit to a long-term deal. The option also increases Jacksonville's leverage if the team wants to sign Bortles to an extension, given that the Jags would have him under reasonable cost control through 2018 and then have the option of a franchise tag in 2019.
In the end, it might come down to a question of personnel power. General manager Dave Caldwell drafted Bortles, and you suspect his side of the front office has always believed in Bortles turning into a franchise passer. Coughlin arrived after Bortles struggled for several years and has no meaningful attachment to the pick. If Coughlin does have final say on football decisions, it seems less likely Bortles will be the guy in Jacksonville in 2018.
If Bortles does leave, some team is going to take a shot on his athleticism and success in 2018. He's an obvious fit for the Cardinals, who liked him coming out of UCF and need someone with athleticism and arm strength in Bruce Arians' downfield passing attack. The Bills, who covet a traditional pocket passer, also could look Bortles' way given that the 25-year-old is essentially the polar opposite of Tyrod Taylor.
I don't know that I've ever seen this happen http://www.broncosfootballofficialstore.com/Trevor_Siemian_Jersey before. The Vikings are going to the playoffs with three quarterbacks on their roster who will likely start multiple games in 2018, and none of them are under contract for next season. I'm also not sure who the Vikings will (or should) try to retain to take snaps for them. It's a situation that any team with a settled quarterback situation is happy to avoid, and any team lacking a quarterback would look at enviously.
Of the three, it seems easiest to eliminate Bradford, even if he arguably has the most upside. It's tough for the Vikings to commit to a 30-year-old with multiple knee injuries for any sort of long-term deal, and yet, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Bradford get meaningful guaranteed money on the open market. Teams with aspirations of competing, like the Dolphins and Giants, could look at Bradford as a starter if they dump their incumbents. The Cardinals have taken risks on players with injury histories before and have a need under http://www.officiallightningproshop.com/Ondrej_Palat_Jersey center. The Browns could even go after Bradford as a bridge quarterback to give whomever they take with the first overall pick time to hide from coach Hue Jackson.
It seems far likelier, on http://www.nashvillepredatorsofficialonline.com/Adidas-Ryan-Ellis-Jersey the other hand, that Bridgewater will re-sign in Minnesota, at least on a one-year deal. He's not going to get much playing time the rest of the way barring an injury to Keenum, so Bridgewater would be hitting the market two years after his last meaningful reps in a league that didn't really value him highly in the 2014 draft. His best bet is to Authentic Mike Richter Jersey rebuild his value in purple and gold before hitting the market in 2019 or signing an extension next year.
Keenum, of course, is the most difficult evaluation of all. A year ago, Keenum was a backup on one of the worst teams in football and could muster only a one-year, $2 million deal in free agency to be a clear backup. He also has an identical passer rating in 2017 to Jared Goff and a better Total QBR than Tom Brady. We have 777 pass attempts suggesting Keenum is an anonymous backup quarterback and 427 more implying he's a superstar.
What do you do with that if you're general manager Rick Spielman? Are you willing to pay in excess of $20 million to franchise Keenum and see if he can do it again? Do you offer him a Tyrod Taylor-style deal in which the Vikings can get out of the deal after one year if Keenum reverts to form? Or do you let another team take the gamble, re-sign Bridgewater, and try to convince one of the quarterbacks with a longer track record of success to come play with a perpetually dominant defense and two of the best wideouts in the league? Minnesota has so many mouths to feed on defense and along that offense that it might need to pay its quarterback next to nothing to keep everyone else around.

|, though, anything goes. The Dolphins are in awful cap shape after Marcus Johansson Jersey making a series of terrible decisions this past offseason, but as a team that routinely offers players an additional year of guarantees, they might very well offer Cousins four or even five years of guaranteed upper-echelon quarterback money. The Cardinals could enter the running. Maybe the Steelers even look at Cousins if Ben Roethlisberger calls it quits. The going rate for a quarterback as good as Cousins -- if there even is one -- is multiple first-round picks. Teams are going to throw caution to the wind if Cousins comes free, and they might not be wrong to do so. Two quarterbacks at different points of their careers, both Brees and Garoppolo are going to be staying in their current locales this offseason. Brees had all the leverage in the world when negotiating with the Saints before the 2016 season and instead chose to give in, taking a one-year, $24.3 million extension that places $18 million in http://www.canucksteamproshop.com/Igor_Larionov_Jersey dead money on the Saints' 2018 cap. With Brees not wanting to uproot http://www.officialwarriorsshop.com/authentic-10-tim-hardaway-jersey.html his family and New Orleans looking like a possible Super Bowl contender, there's no reason for him to leave town. He'll likely sign another short-term deal and the Saints will kick the post-Brees cap problems another year down the line. One interesting scenario, though: What if New Orleans wins the Super Bowl and Brees decides to retire on a high note? The Saints would take that trade, of course, but they would be down to $21 million in cap space next year with players such as Kenny Vaccaro and Alex Okafor still unsigned. Would the Saints hope to draft a quarterback Patric Hornqvist Jersey like Louisville's Lamar Jackson with the 32nd pick, or would they Brian Bellows Authentic Jersey go back to their cap disasters of years past and squeeze a veteran onto what would be a competitive roster? Garoppolo, meanwhile, has excelled since taking over as the starter in San Francisco. The 49ers aren't letting him go anywhere, but the question for general manager John Lynch is about sample http://www.denverbroncosshops.com/Domata_Peko_Jersey_Cheap size. Has he seen enough to lock up Garoppolo to a long-term deal after two starts with the Patriots and three with the 49ers? Or does he resist the urge to try to save money with an extension and slap Garoppolo with the franchise tag this offseason to get another year of data on his would-be starter? (Let's assume the scenario I laid out in which Lynch franchises Garoppolo, signs Cousins, and then deals Garoppolo for multiple first-round picks is off the table.) When the Chiefs traded up to grab Patrick Mahomes in April's draft, Smith's days in Kansas City were numbered. The departure of general manager John Dorsey shortly thereafter doesn't change things, given that coach Andy Reid doesn't have any qualms about trading away a quarterback. Remember that Reid dealt Donovan McNabb within the division to Washington after a Pro Bowl season despite seeing a combined three starts in Eagles colors from backups Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick. The fact that Smith http://www.saintsofficialonlineshop.com/SUPER-BOWL-MANTI-TEO-JERSEY has subsequently enjoyed his best season as a pro in 2017 only strengthens Reid's bargaining position. With two games to go, Smith leads the league in passer rating, interception rate and adjusted yards per attempt. He's signed for one more year at $17 million, but whichever team acquires him will likely look to give the 33-year-old an extension. Given how Smith relies so heavily upon accuracy in the short and medium range, it wouldn't be difficult to see him aging well into his late 30s. My Cameron Artis-Payne Jersey suspicion is that Reid will look to get a second-round pick for Smith, even if it means sending a late-round selection back as part of the swap. That seems like a lot to pay for a quarterback Chiefs fans want to bench on an annual basis, but even if you assume Smith is merely average, a lot of teams would be quite happy with an average starting quarterback. The Broncos, for one, might very well be in the thick of the AFC West race if they had Smith as opposed to their flotsam at quarterback. Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave has built a playoff offense around Christian Ponder (and Adrian Peterson) before, so it's not like he can't make hay with a former first overall pick. Washington might consider dealing for Smith if it loses Cousins. Smith would be a perfect fit for the Jaguars if they move on from Bortles because of what they're looking for from a quarterback. He'd also fit the Vikings' current scheme if they don't end up keeping any of the passers they have on the roster. As someone who has been skeptical of Bortles for virtually his entire career, let me echo the sentiments you've read elsewhere: He's playing fantastic football. The numbers are great -- over his past three games, Bortles leads the league in yards per attempt (9.9), passer rating (128.6) and Total QBR (85.5) -- and they're matched by how he looks on the field. Bortles' numbers in the past were a product of garbage-time chucks to Allen Robinson. Robinson is not around, and even with Marqise Lee sidelined last week, Bortles was dropping perfect throws into guys like Keelan Cole and Jaydon Mickens. Bortles deserves all the plaudits he's getting. |The 2018 offseason is shaping up to be a fascinating game of quarterback musical chairs. During a typical offseason, we usually see about seven teams either replace their current passer or draft a player who they expect to eventually take over as their long-term quarterback. Excluding the injuries that forced the Colts and Dolphins to make moves before the 2017 season, there were six teams -- the 49ers, Bears, Browns, Chiefs, Jets and Texans -- that dramatically changed their quarterback calculus this past offseason.
By the time this offseason is over, we could see as many as 11 teams change either their current or long-term QB1. And that's assuming we don't get any veteran retirements or teams like Kansas City trading up to grab a quarterback a year or two before anyone expected. There are six teams that are all but guaranteed to come up with a new answer under center. That's rare.
What's even rarer is the crop of quarterback options available. Players who don't normally hit the market might be available this offseason, which could very well lead to some massive, franchise-shifting bets. Front offices will simultaneously be scouting a quarterback class that could include as many as five signal-callers worthy of a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft. If you're planning on finding a new quarterback over the next several seasons, this is probably the year in which to make your move.
Teams will have to prepare to pursue multiple quarterbacks on several fronts and be willing to settle for their second or third choice. As we break down the veteran market to come in order of how the league would perceive their desirability, though, it all starts with the rarest commodity: a franchise quarterback in the prime of his career who might be available for free.
This doesn't really ever happen. Teams find passers in free agency who slip through the cracks, like Tyrod Taylor. Peyton Manning hit the market after what could have been career-ending neck surgery. The last time we saw a quarterback as productive as Cousins hit the market before turning 30 was when Drew Brees left the Chargers after the 2005 season. Even then, though, Brees was coming off a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, one which famously led the Dolphins to choose Daunte Culpepper over the guy who would subsequently make his Hall of Fame case in New Orleans.
The http://www.officialmarinershop.com/Randy_Johnson_Jersey big question is whether Washington goes where no team has gone before under the current CBA and keeps Cousins off the market with a third franchise tag. Doing so would guarantee Cousins $34.5 million for 2018, adding up to a total of $78.4 million over those three franchise tags. Washington could theoretically afford to eat the cost of a third tag, but it would only push the Cousins problem a year into the future and make Cousins the most expensive quarterback on paper by a significant margin, given that no other passer has a 2018 cap hit over $26.5 million.
General manager Bruce Allen also could slap Cousins with the transition tag, which would lock him in for a more palatable $28.8 million next season. The problem is that the transition tag doesn't offer any compensation and would open up Washington to a bevy of offers from teams with far more cap space than what Washington will have.
The Jaguars, for example, could cut quarterback Blake Bortles, running back Chris Ivory and receiver Allen Hurns, and restructure defensive San Jose Sharks Jersey tackle Malik Jackson's deal, and carve out $72 million in cap space. They could offer Cousins a deal with a huge 2018 roster bonus and base salary and eat an enormous cap charge in excess of $50 million in doing so, which Washington wouldn't be able to match without gutting the rest of its team. Washington could simply sign Cousins to a long-term deal, but given that its offer from July wasn't competitive, it's tough to see why its stance would have changed.
Simultaneously, though, the market for Cousins looks totally different than it did a year ago. After the 2017 offseason, it seemed like the two teams that would compete for Cousins in free agency were a pair of NFC West rivals, with both the 49ers (Kyle Shanahan) and Rams (Sean McVay) hiring a pair of ex-Washington offensive coordinators. Now, with Jimmy Garoppolo and Jared Goff both playing like stars, those teams are out of http://www.bearsnflofficialproshop.com/pat-odonnell-jersey-for-sale-c-45.html the quarterback market.
Plenty of teams will be interested in Cousins, but leaving Washington might not seem to be Johnny Gaudreau Womens Jersey quite as compelling without a familiar face in charge. If Washington transition-tags Cousins and forces an interested team to make a huge payment in Year 1, he'll be limited to organizations that either have/are capable of clearing a lot of cap space immediately. The Jaguars would be in play. The Browns and Jets can afford anyone. The Vikings have $60.5 million to play with but also have a bevy of young talent about to hit free agency. The Bills, Broncos and Giants would really need to stretch to have any real shot at clearing out the cap room required for a $45 million cap hit in 2018. Anything less and Washington probably matches.

When teams make better offers for Machado, listen. Listen like a team that knows it has a poor track record of drafting and developing starting pitchers. Listen like a team that, whether it’s because of financial constraints or because of a small park that scares prospective pitchers away, knows it has trouble seducing starters via free agency. Listen like a team that knows its best bet to acquire pitching is through a trade for talented arms that have already been identified and developed by other organizations, and that belong to controllable players who have no choice as to where they work. Listen long, listen carefully and act.
Act like the Rays acted earlier on Wednesday, when they shipped franchise face Evan Longoria to San Francisco. Act like the White Sox acted last winter, when they unloaded Chris Sale and Adam Eaton in return for a shipload of prospects who instantly transformed Chicago’s farm system into a top five outfit. Act like a club that’s prudently planning for the future instead of a club that thinks year-to-year and considers a postseason appearance -- no matter how brief -- the end that justifies the means.
That’s not to say that the Orioles should pull the trigger just for the sake of pulling the trigger. When they decided to cling to Britton at the trade deadline last year, it was presumably because the front office felt it wasn’t getting enough in return. And that was their right. But as Britton’s Authentic Jurrell Casey Jersey Achilles injury illustrates, there’s an imperceptibly -- and unpredictably -- fine http://www.broncosfootballprosshop.com/John_Elway_Jersey_Cheap line between getting fair value and getting nothing at all.
"As soon as that season ended, I wanted to do everything in my power not to have the feeling that I had this past year," Schwarber said later in the day while sitting in his truck. "I want to be great. You have to do all those little things to be great. I don't want to just be known as some guy that played for the Cubs. I want to be a leader. I want to be the best player I can be. And that means getting in the best shape I can be."
Schwarber waves off questions about how much weight he has lost because he isn't concerned with a number, though his trainers believe it's 17-20 pounds. Schwarber sees that only as a means to an end. To become a great player, he needed to get into great shape.
"Since November we've focused on a good base," said Murphy, who spent nine years playing professional football including NFL stints with the Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "Stability in his knee, and then it's all been power, speed and agility. Everything about him I want to be quick. He'll http://www.buccaneersshopnfljersey.com/Vernon-Hargreaves-Iii-Jersey be as strong as he needs to be to hit a baseball far the rest of his life. Schwarber has rid himself of the brace on his leg that as recently as last spring he said he thought he would wear for the http://www.panthersshopnfl.com/Authentic-Vernon-Butler-Jersey rest of his career. Not anymore. With weight loss has come less stress on his surgically repaired left knee. Anyway, Murphy believes the brace was a crutch.
"The guy came out of the womb hitting a baseball," the trainer said. "Anything you put on his body hinders that."
No brace, a new diet and a strict workout routine mapped Kirk Mclean Youth jersey out backward from Feb. 10 are how Schwarber approached the winter. He eliminated non-necessary travel and minimized vacation time in a commitment to make the most of his most important offseason to date.
"It's only things that are going to benefit your professional career. I'm already a strong guy. The best thing to do now is to train to be more baseball-specific: get faster, get more explosive because I'm playing the outfield," Schwarber said. "I want better first steps to the ball. Instead of diving for that ball, I want to catch it on my chest. That's the goal."
After an hour of showing off his newfound agility on the football field, Schwarber hopped into his Dodge Jerian Grant Womens Jersey Ram truck to take a quick trip to ASPI for some strength and conditioning, with a focus on balance and core strength. "That's collateral damage -- in a good way," Murphy said of Schwarber's new http://www.officialbroncosfootball.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_RONALD_LEARY_JERSEY.html look. |This story appears in ESPN The Magazine's Dec. 25 NBA Christmas Issue. Subscribe today! THE DAY AFTER the Lakers take Lonzo Ball with the second pick of June's Eddie Lacy Womens Jersey draft, Lakers president Magic Johnson is holding court. It's the usual news conference introducing a new prospect, but this one projects a different tone. This is Johnson's first occasion as the czar of the Lakers' next golden age.
The event takes place on the practice court at the team's old training facility, the last relic of the Kobe Bryant era. And it's here that Johnson tells Lonzo, "I'm going to put a little pressure on you right now." Magic points to the back of the gym, where the uniforms of Lakers legends -- his among them -- hang on the wall. "We expect a Ball jersey hanging up there one day, all right?"
Looking one part hostage, one part valedictorian, Ball sits between Johnson and Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka -- who just the night before had declared Lonzo a "transcendent talent." Ball, having T. J. Leaf Jersey forgone the traditional pressed suit in lieu of a black zip-up Big Baller Brand hoodie, crosses his arms on the dais as he receives these compliments dispassionately but respectfully, as if he's in an HR session.
Johnson is here to introduce Ball. But what Magic, never a man to traffic in understatement, has truly introduced are the Lakers' expectations: Lonzo Ball will become a superstar, part of the Lakers' lineage of Hall of Fame talents. He will be a proper heir to Kobe Bryant -- which Johnson implicitly conveys D'Angelo Russell was not.
Around the NBA, there is an almost affectionate esteem for Ball's approach to basketball; he is a 20-year-old whose primary motivation in life is to find chances for teammates to score. But when insiders are asked whether Ball can meet the Lakers' expectations, their praise pivots to a series of disclaimers. Should Ball never evolve into a prolific scorer, he would have to transform into a species that's nearly extinct -- the score-last All-Star who relies on vision over pyrotechnics. Ball isn't a pure shooter, nor is he the type of explosive pick-and-roll point guard that's http://www.authentickingstore.com/-23-dustin-brown-jersey_c-486.html ascendant in today's NBA.
Admirable as Ball's generosity might be, he carries deficiencies that, although once tolerated in point guards, are now often
disqualifiers. TO GAIN A true sense of Lonzo Ball's skill set, what you'd have to do is this: Stand on the court during a live NBA game, preferably right under the basket; envelop yourself in a 360-degree view of the action in real time -- and ideally avoid being struck by the 20 arms and legs whirling around you.
This is my experience on a Sunday night in November as the Lakers take on the Grizzlies at Staples Center -- or at least it virtually is. There's a VR headset strapped to my head. It's ungodly heavy, as if a second skull http://www.officialcoltsfootballshop.com/Nike-Jacoby-Brissett-Jersey.html has engulfed my first. But the effect is profound, even though I never move more than 6 inches from my position in the NextVR truck parked outside the arena.
With this headset on, I'm every bit as present on the floor as Brook Lopez or Mike Conley. Turn my head to the right and Luke Walton is a foot away, barking at official James Andrew McCutchen Jersey Capers. Turn it back and Marc Gasol is headed my way as if I'm about to enter his sanctum inside the lane. In truth, the intruder on the court is Lonzo Ball, whose eyes are like searchlights, surveying the expanse, watching for subtle movements by opponents that might open a seam.
Everyone exists in Lonzo's field of vision. Grizzlies center Brandan Wright does. He backpedals as Lonzo comes off a pick by Julius Randle in the first quarter. So do the Grizzlies' pair of help-side defenders, stunting and lurching at Lonzo as he weaves through traffic. Somehow, Lonzo appears to be watching all three before spinning clockwise as he elevates and slings a sidearm two-handed pass across his body. The pass hits Randle in the hands for a dunk.
This is Ball's vision in heightened effect, where every trip down the court is an optical marvel. And to live inside it for a few hours is to gain a firsthand appreciation for how tantalizing the package is, the sight lines no person with binocular vision should rightly have. He is, in a phrase, a passing savant. But here's the thing about passers: You're only as good as your finishers.
IT'S THE FIRST week of practice in August 2016 at UCLA, and Ball is about to endanger his Bruins teammates. In the old men's gym where John Wooden once coached, and where the NBA's elite furtively play pickup all summer, the Bruins run through one of their first drills of the season, a basic pick-and-roll action, with Ball at the point receiving a screen from hulking 7-foot center Thomas Welsh. The returnees have heard about Ball -- who hasn't? -- and his playmaking exploits. He's gonna make the game so easy for you, they've been told ad nauseam. But this drill marks the first time Ball's teammates will witness whether Ball the Player conforms to Ball the Mythology.

Zuerlein had been pushing through a sore back for a significant chunk of this season, coach Sean McVay said, and the disk flared up on him while he slept the night before last Sunday's game in Seattle. The Rams were surprised he was even able to play. They tried out about 10 kickers at their facility earlier Wednesday and wound up signing Sam Ficken, originally an undrafted free agent out of Penn State. -- Alden Gonzalez The Niners were surprised when free safety Adrian Colbert reported concussion symptoms after last week's game against Tennessee. Now, Colbert is in the concussion protocol and his status for Sunday against Jacksonville is up in the air. Colbert had just returned from a thumb injury, but without him, the 49ers are very thin in terms of safety depth. Believe it or not, Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has been one of the most productive signal-callers in the league over the past three weeks, and if Colbert can't go, the middle of the field becomes ripe for Bortles' picking. -- http://www.billsfootballofficialprostore.com/Authentic-Nathan-Peterman-Jersey Nick Wagoner Seattle Dermontti Dawson Authentic Jersey Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll sounded optimistic that linebacker K.J. |The Carolina Panthers are for sale. It happened quickly and surprised many, and the circumstances are wholly unique in NFL history. The news also has prompted a slew of questions. Darren Rovell covered why a sale could be good for NFL business. But how would the process work? Who can place bids? What's a reasonable timeline? Here's http://www.officialbruinsprostore.com/terry-oreilly-jersey-for-sale-c-22.html what we know. his came out of left field. Aren't the Panthers a stable, family-owned franchise? They were until last Friday, when they announced that a law firm would investigate allegations of workplace misconduct by owner Jerry Richardson. On Sunday, Sports Illustrated published a major investigative piece revealing why. That night, Richardson announced his intention to sell. On Monday, he stepped away from the franchise's daily operations and named Tina Becker its chief operating officer. That's a whirlwind. Richardson is 81 years old. Wouldn't he have sold soon anyway? Perhaps. His sons stepped away from the franchise in 2009, and it was unclear whether Richardson wanted the Panthers to remain with his family after his death. It's possible that the revelations simply accelerated a previously made decision to sell. Richardson said in a statement that he wouldn't commence Andy Pettitte Jersey the sale process until "after the very last game is played." The Panthers have not clinched a playoff spot with two weeks to play, so it's possible that bids could start coming in as early as the first week of January. How does the bidding process work? Any person or potential group can submit a bid, negotiate a price and sign a preliminary purchase agreement. Richardson said in 2009 that he owns 48 percent of the team, according to the Charlotte Observer. The other 52 percent is owned by a group of 12 investors, including members of the Belk and Bissell families and Erskine Bowles, a former White House Chief of Staff under president Authentic Robert Alford Jersey Bill Clinton. No other owners are obligated to sell, but they could negotiate separately with the next owner. Does the NFL have any say in the matter? Of course. The league will begin its vetting process in earnest after the purchase agreement is executed -- if the prospective general partner is not well known to them. Sometimes prospective owners work with the NFL in the background for years as they await the next franchise sale. In some cases, the NFL will broker and deliver a buyer to the franchise, as it did with Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns in 2012. Haslam had been a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Does the NFL have many rules for new owners? The general partner must own at least 30 percent of the team equity, and typically the league prefers that percentage to be substantially higher. The NFL conducts a comprehensive review of the ownership group's finances. The general partner and the larger group, if there is one, must demonstrate the ability to both acquire the team and George Gervin Authentic Jersey have enough cash to run the franchise. No team can be purchased with more than $250 million of debt. The record for an NFL franchise sale to date is the $1.4 billion that Terry Pegula paid for the Buffalo Bills in 2014. But franchise http://www.officialbostonbruins.com/Adidas-Terry-O-Reilly-Jersey values have continued to rise in the three years since then. Forbes recently pegged the Panthers at $2.3 billion. ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that people in the league believe the team will sell for around $2.5 billion. Wow. What did Richardson and his partners originally pay for the darn thing? About $206 million, including an expansion fee, when the franchise was initiated in 1995. Are you sure someone is going to pay that much money? Isn't the NFL under siege? The league has faced some challenges. Ratings are down. We see empty (but mostly sold) seats on television each week. Players and owners are always fighting, and lately, the owners are fighting among themselves. But the bottom line is the NFL remains the most lucrative and popular sport in America. Buying a team elevates a prospective owner's public stature in a way that few other business decisions could. Who is Richardson going to sell to? One of the first people to declare interest was Diddy, the entertainer whose net worth Forbes has estimated at $820 million. Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and current NBA star Stephen Curry have said they want to join the group. Another name to surface is Edward DeBartolo Jr., who transferred ownership of the San Francisco 49ers to his sister in 2000 because of involvement in a corruption case. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016. Is it one of those two guys? No. There will be many more suitors. Some of their names will never be publicized, and it's possible that the identity of the winning bid might not surface until the purchase agreement is signed. As crazy as it sounds, neither Diddy nor DeBartolo is believed to have the kind of money that matches recent NFL ownership additions. The last two people to buy NFL teams -- Haslam and Pegula -- are worth $3.7 billion and $4.3 billion, respectively, according to Forbes. Would the new owner need to keep the team in Charlotte? |Through Week 13, 12 teams Isaac Seumalo Womens Jersey were on pace to win or lose at least four more games this year than last, making for huge swings in the standings and huge questions about the future. The gap in scoring differentials among NFL squads isn't as tight as in 2016, thanks largely to breakouts by the Eagles and Rams. But as the league churns, there must be two dozen teams whose performances heading into 2018 are utterly unpredictable. Not even Philly or LA, whose teams have enjoyed relatively good health and soft schedules this season, can offer guarantees. Of course, there's one great exception to this Brownian motion. While you're keeping track of tiebreakers or draft slots as you wrap holiday gifts, the Patriots will, as always, sit Christopher Tanev Jersey atop the AFC East, readying for another Super Bowl run. That's thanks not just to the greatness of Tom Brady but to dozens of adjustments that Bill Belichick's crew somehow keeps making better than any other franchise in the league. To illustrate, I want to zero in on how New England executes one play that you might not even notice but that consistently gives the Patriots an edge: kickoffs. Because kickoffs are dangerous for players, the NFL has been trying for years to reduce their importance. In 2016, the league moved the starting field position for touchbacks from the 20-yard line up to the 25, the idea being that more returners would take a knee for 5 extra yards. The percentage of kickoffs returned has dropped since but by just a few points -- which might have happened anyway, given how placekickers keep getting stronger. More interesting, the new rule gave smart teams a chance to game the system by intentionally kicking http://www.authentictexasrangersshop.com/Nolan-Ryan-Jersey short, then smothering returns before returners reach the 25. Last year's opening weekend showed the range of possibilities. The Colts took the traditionalist route: Up one with 37 seconds left against Detroit, Chuck Pagano, not wanting to risk a long return, ordered Pat McAfee to boot the ball out of the end zone for a touchback. Three completions and 25 seconds later, the Lions were at the Authentic Jon Casey Jersey Colts' 25 and kicked a field goal to win it. Meanwhile, Stephen Gostkowski's first four kickoffs of the 2016 season for the Patriots went into Arizona's end zone. But when the game was late and close, Gostkowski kicked to the 5-yard line and to the 3. After a 14-yard return and a holding penalty, the Cardinals' final drive started on their 8, and they missed a potential game-winning 47-yard field goal. Kicking off to just short of the end zone meant no touchback, and denying Arizona those extra yards proved critical. Now yesterday's experiment has become today's strategy. Gostkowski has just 31 touchbacks, or 41.3 percent of his 75 kickoffs, down from 55.9 percent last season and Womens Willie McGee Jersey 69.7 percent in 2015, making him the only kicker in the NFL to reduce his rate by 10 or more points in each of the past two years. How purposeful are Belichick & Co.? In Denver in Week 10, Gostkowski had just one touchback in eight kickoffs; the following week, facing the Raiders and Cordarrelle Patterson, he had six http://www.officialmapleleafsonline.com/Frederik_Andersen_Jersey in seven. Kicking short wouldn't be too valuable if Gostkowski were shanking randomly. But when he kicks to opponents' 4- to 6-yard lines, they end up returning the ball, on average, only to their own 21.4. When he boots it to their 1 to 3, returners merely make it to the 23, on average. And then there are the kicks Gostkowski places just deep enough to dangle as bait. On 16 occasions, opponents have run back his kickoffs from 3 yards or less inside their own end zones. On average, they barely reach the 20. Gostkowski induces foes into doomed returns, and the Patriots' coverage teams blanket them; Gostkowski hasn't had a kickoff returned for a touchdown since 2010. Result: New England is the only team to rank in the top three in the NFL in average field position of http://www.arizonacoyotesofficialonline.com/Adidas-Dylan-Strome-Jersey opponents after kickoffs in each of the past two seasons. That's not too sexy. It's easier to understand the appeal of a return-proof boomer like the Rams' Greg Zuerlein (touchbacks on 81.5 percent of kickoffs). But a moment will come in this year's playoffs when fans of the Titans, say, or the Chargers will wonder why facing New England feels like running uphill. You'll know why: The Patriots make you work harder even after they score. Yards are yards, and they all add up. |$127 million contract that expires in 2021. He has been patient with the Pelicans' personnel problems and their frequent missteps. He loves New Orleans and swears he doesn't long for a major market. He does, however, long for a well-run, well-balanced franchise. He sees it with San Antonio and http://www.officialbaseballcardinalsstore.com/Jedd_Gyorko_Jersey Oklahoma City and plans to hold his team accountable to find a way. Cousins' arrival is a start, but the Pelicans are devoid of depth and developing young talent. "You look at the Warriors, Cleveland, Boston," he said. "They lose Gordon [Hayward], they're still playing well. KD-Steph-Draymond-Klay. They play so well with each other. They move the basketball. They don't care who scores. Steph and Draymond are out, and they still won. KD is out. They still win. "That's the way the league is now. I don't see anyone winning without three or four All-Stars. ... I was in the [MVP] conversation in my third year, and we didn't win. Jhonny Peralta Authentic Jersey We went to the playoffs, got swept, and I dropped out of all that so fast. It's about winning. You can have all the numbers in the world, but you better win. That's what it is. This whole league, everything is about winning. Every award. Everything. It's all about winning." Davis remains an obsession of several NBA teams full of the necessary trade assets to unfasten him from New Orleans, should the Pelicans ever consider a rebuild --- or should Davis ever request a trade. Boston has remained vigilant on the possibility of acquiring Davis, and Davis knows it. However, the Pelicans have no intention of trading an all-world talent under contract through 2021, no matter the return. Before the Cousins trade a year ago, though, Davis kept hearing talk of the Celtics trying to trade for him. He walked into GM Dell Demps' office and asked about it. "He told me that [Boston] was calling, but nothing was going to happen," Davis said. "At the same time, though, you http://www.officialcapitalsauthentic.com/Brooks_Orpik_Jersey see how organizations treat players. Isaiah Thomas. DeMarcus [Cousins] told me that the [Kings] told him that he wasn't going to get traded, but they traded him. Isaiah took his team to the Eastern Conference finals, and they traded him. "It makes you wonder: Does this organization really have my back? I've been loyal to this organization. I love it here. I love this team. I think we're moving in the right direction. DeMarcus, Rondo, some other players that are helping us, but people get judged on winning. And I want to win. "It's not about the money. It's not about having fans. The most important thing to me: winning. That's what I want to do. And I want to do it here." Quietly, Kyle O'Quinn has been a key part of the New York Knicks' surprising 16-13 start. The reserve center is averaging career highs in assists, rebounds and field goal percentage. His net rating of plus-7.5 is the best among the Knicks who have played at least 400 minutes. "That's the engine," Knicks forward Michael Beasley said of O'Quinn. "He gets in and he's loud, he's ferocious. He gets more blocks than he's supposed to. Defense, offensive rebounding. He's the energy guy on this team; he's the one that keeps it all going." But for a few Saturdays during his tenure in New York, O'Quinn has taken on an entirely different one: bar mitzvah and bat mitzvah entertainer. "The parties are crazy," he said. "I did one, did two, and the next thing you know, I was just Bar Mitzvah Man." O'Quinn is one of the bigger comedians in the Knicks' locker room, so it makes sense that he would thrive as the headline act at a party filled with 13-year-olds. The 6-foot-10 center spends most of his time at the parties socializing, dancing, joking around with families and -- of course -- taking plenty of selfies. "A lot of times, I go and I stay longer than I'm supposed to because it's so much fun," O'Quinn said. "The Authentic William Gay Jersey food's always good. The only thing that gets a little overwhelming is the kids; sometimes they don't listen to the structure of the party and it just gets loose. "And the [parents] kind of leave it like, 'Kyle, you deal with it.' And it's kids saying, 'Selfie, selfie, selfie, snapchat, what's your snapchat?' But once you get that out of the way, it's fun." They see how much I enjoy it and they let me rock out," he said. "The parents are partying with the kids Jarran Reed Youth jersey and it's a big festival. They're letting loose, having a good time and the kids are having a good time. "Honestly, it's really nice to be a part of their culture and be down with them." O'Quinn doesn't have any immediate plans to attend another bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah. He's fairly busy with his day job at the moment. |CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green isn't going to let the possibility of coach Marvin Lewis leaving at Bobby Hart Womens Jersey the end of the season affect him. During the first event, he and Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick donated more than 300 bikes to children at an elementary school. The second occurred at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati, where Green hosted a pingpong tournament and played the game with the kids in attendance. Green admitted it has been difficult to block everything out, considering the news of Lewis' departure came just before the Bengals dropped their third straight game. "It's hard to ignore the noise when you're losing," Green said. "It's tough. ... We get paid to play the game of football. We don't get played to choose when we want to play well, [no matter] what's going on. That's my mindset. I can't speak for everybody else, but I'm going to give everything I've got for the last two weeks." Bengals offensive coordinator Bill Lazor Jordan Matthews Womens Jersey said Monday he thought the offense was going through some of the same confidence issues they had during the first two games of the season, which resulted in then-offensive coordinator Ken Zampese getting fired after two weeks. The offense is now ranked last in the NFL and the team is out of the playoffs. There's nothing else to lose at this point, Green said. "We've got to let everything go. We can't be afraid to make mistakes. The season is already lost," he said. "We're just playing for pride right now. NEW ORLEANS -- Anthony Davis has listened to those prodding him to ramp up his posts, rough up a rival on Twitter, give the old grinding hashtag after leaving the practice gym. "Yeah, I hear it all: You need to post before games," Davis said. "If you have a dunk or make a big shot, http://www.newyorkislandersofficialonline.com/Adidas-Ryan-Strome-Jersey post it. It's not me. If there are moments when Davis is tempted to http://www.coltsfootballofficialproshop.com/WOMENS_YOUTH_PIERRE_DESIR_JERSEY.html raise one of those condor arms and remind everyone of his peerless talent, you can forgive him: In an NBA awash with under-25-year-old marvels, Davis is still an ascending, transcendent talent, a size and skill set from the future plopped into the present. Yet even so, sometimes it's easy to move on to everyone else. Two years out of the playoffs with the Pelicans, and Davis said, "It feels like it's been 20 years." Behind him in the NBA draft there has come a crop of global talents from Greece and Latvia, Cameroon and Australia. Davis comes out of the heartland, the South Side of Chicago. "I think about that all the time," Davis said. "I hear these TV shows and see social media. They say [Kristaps] Porzingis. They say Giannis [Antetokounmpo], Joel [Embiid]. And that's fine, I'll just play basketball. "But it goes back to the winning thing, too, and well, what have they won? They're in the same boat as me. I just try to go out and play and not to worry much about it. "... But it is personal. For sure, it's personal. When I play those games, they're talking about [Karl-Anthony] Towns, and they're talking about Porzingis and Giannis, and they're talking about me. Who is going to win this matchup? |[Al] asked me if I’d wanted to talk to the Glazers. And my contract was coming up. To make a long story short, I said, ‘Yeah, I’d like to talk to the Glazers.’ That didn’t make him very happy.”
Bucs co-chairman Bryan Glazer: “Jon was a winner. Coming from Oakland, Jon had huge success on the offensive side of the ball. We had an unbelievable defense, and all we were missing was that side of the football. Getting a chance to get a http://www.officialbluejacketsshop.com/authentic-3-seth-jones-jersey.html young coach in his prime was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and so we did what we needed to do to make it happen.”
The deal was done by 3 a.m. on Feb. 18, 2002. The trade was for four draft picks -- first- and second-round picks in 2002, a first-rounder in 2003 and a second-rounder in 2004 -- and $8 million. Gruden would make almost $4 million per season for five years, more than tripling his salary. Trading for coaches wasn’t that uncommon at the time. Patriots owner Robert Kraft gave Leon Hess and the New York Jets a first-round draft pick in 2000 to land Bill Belichick. In 1997, Jets owner Hess gave a first-, second-, third- and fourth-round draft pick and a $300,000 charitable donation to the Patriots to land Parcells in a deal brokered by NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue.
Cindy Gruden, Jon's wife: “We did get the call around 1 in the morning, and we were disoriented. So the news comes http://www.authenticwhitesoxstore.com/authentic-45-bobby-jenks-jersey.html through, and we can’t get a hold of our agent, Bob [Lamonte], because it’s nighttime. Nobody does business -- I don’t know -- the Glazers do things sometimes in the middle of the night. So it came through, and we talked to Al Davis and the Glazers, and everybody was like, 'Are we doing this?' 'Yes, we are. It's done.'"
Gruden: "Shortly after that, we agreed on a contract. I guess the trade had already been agreed upon between the Raiders and the Bucs. It all happened fast. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep much that night."
Cindy Gruden: “It was like, ‘What just happened?’ And then it’s all these emotions because California’s your home, the Raiders are your team and you love those people. You’d been through a lot with them football-wise, at least from a wife’s perspective. We live and die with our husbands as well. So you http://www.jacksonvillejaguars.us.com/WOMENS-DEDE-WESTBROOK-JERSEY.html have all these emotions of leaving the place that you love, but going into a place that you also love. So it was an insane mix of emotions.”
Gruden's family lived in the Tampa Bay area. His father, Jim, was the Bucs' running backs coach from 1982-83 and was a regional scout and director of player personnel. His brother, Jay Gruden, went to Tampa's Chamberlain High School and was the quarterback; he later became head coach of the Arena Football League's Orlando Predators.
Gruden: “It was like a storybook opportunity for me to go home. ... I grew up with [former Bucs tight end] Jimmie Giles. I was a ball boy for the Bucs. [Former Bucs quarterback] Doug Williams, I idolized Doug.” Glazer: “It was euphoria. It was so exciting to know that Jon was coming to Tampa.”
"That was just a crazy time in all of our lives. That was Julian Howsare Youth jersey just shocking. I was just totally just blown away that he was traded in the middle of the night. That was a first one for me [and] a first for a lot of people. I was happy for him. A special guy."
Brown: “I tried to get ahold of him right away, and obviously I couldn’t, because he was already on his way to Tampa; and next time I saw him, he was on TV being introduced as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.”
As news of Gruden's Womens Sean Rodriguez Jersey hiring spread through Tampa, Jeffrey Neil Fox, owner of the old Buccaneer Heaven, a memorabilia store just a few miles north of Raymond James Stadium, had to prepare for the Gruden frenzy, including the coach’s “alter ego.” Gruden’s facial expressions, combined with his blonde hair, freckles and boyish appearance earned him the nickname "Chucky" after a character in the 1998 horror flick "Child's Play."
Fox: "We got on the internet and bought up every single Chucky doll there was. Initially, I got 100, but I ended up ordering, I think, 2,000 of them. We made them go back to Jake Rudock Womens Jersey press. We made the toy manufacturer make them up again. We had a little bit of a monopoly on this. ... Johnson: "I called [Raiders quarterback] Rich Gannon when that went down, and he said, 'Brad, you're gonna love playing for him. He's gonna have you more prepared than anybody you've ever had before. He's gonna teach you a lot of football. And he's gonna give you a chance to win at a higher level.' And Rich was right about everything."
