| Title | Blizzard has shown a real commitment to improving the game | ||||
| Description | give the game a huge amount of replay value whether you play online or solo. NG+ keeps the loot hunt going at higher levels, and a wide array of extra maps unlocked at the end of the game (and purchasable with in-game gold) ensure that theres always something more to do, some other dungeon to crawl. The cheapest game of the bunch, Torchlight 2gives you your moneys worth and then some. If you have any love of the top-down action-RPG genre, this is quite simply a must own. Heres Part One of my Torchlight II review. 4. XCOM: Enemy Unkown Just one more mission and then Ill turn off the computer. Just one more mission and then Ill get back to writing. I promise. I know some people say the new XCOMgame is not a worthy spiritual successor to the original. Not having played the original, I really cant say. What I can say is this: XCOM Enemy Unknownis not an easy game, but its so well designed and comes with such a clean, clear UI and control system, youll have a hard time walking away from the game once you begin. Just one more mission, youll say. But youll be lying to yourself when you say it. Heres Part One of my XCOMreview. 5. Diablo III I know Diablo III isnt the most popular game out there C and there are some very good reasons why. The ending is ho-hum and the always-online requirement is ridiculous. Still, I really enjoyed most of Diablo III(right up till the end, despite its flaws.) With new patches the game has better Legendary Loot and a new system of Paragon Levels to keep dofus players grinding away ad infinitum. Once PvP arrives C someday C the game will have even more replay value. Hopefully expansion packs will also increase its longevity. For all the games faults, Blizzard has shown a real commitment to improving the game post-launch. And Ill admit to having been plenty hooked on the game when it first came out. Heres my review of Diablo III. Honorable Mentions The PC edition of Dark Soulsis the best version so far, with new content and better graphics (once you apply the user fix.) Its just as addicting as the console version, but its a port and ports dont make the list (at least not ports that came out originally in 2011.) Path of Exileis extremely addicting but its still in beta so I cant count that either. Dragons Dogmahad a lot Dofus Power Leveling going for it and could have been an addicting game had there been a co-op mode or more save slots C and more varied enemies and environments. Strong combat wore thin without more interesting exploration. Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoningwould have been more addicting had it been A) more challenging and B) had a better, less generic world and story. Counter-Strike: Global Offensiveis as addicting as CS: Source, but its basically just a re-skinned version of the earlier game. Hence the disqualification. Nor are the listed dofus games the bestof the year. dofus games like Dishonoredare truly excellent titles but dont have that addictive quality, for better or worse. | ||||
