This week saw the arrival of many big patches and updates for all sorts of games, from DICE's Battlefield 4, to Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 5, or Valve's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.These new things signal quite a few interesting aspects of the gaming industry nowadays. Games, even after launch, need to be fixed and improved in order to stand a chance against other, newer titles.Let's start with Battlefield 4. While the game is certainly a high quality first-person shooter filled with content both in terms of single-player and multiplayer, it's been plagued by all sorts of problems across all platforms, from PC to PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, or Xbox One.Unfortunately for DICE, as soon as it releases updates for the game to solve some key issues, new ones pop up, causing more frustration for players.Grand Theft Auto 5 already went through this whole ordeal when its online mode launched back in October, but now most updates are just focused on adding new content for that multiplayer FIFA Coins mode, such as the content creator or the Beach Bum pack.Counter-Strike: Global Offensive received its holiday-themed Winter Offensive update earlier this week and Valve has added a whopping amount of new content.From the two new maps: Overpass and Cobblestone, to new cases filled with custom weapons made by the developer or by the community, to a special gift initiative designed to promote charity amongst players, the patch has brought a lot of value to the online shooter.While I ;m sure that Battlefield 4 and, to some extent, GTA 5 will both reach the status of CS:GO, and receive just updates with new content, developers should at least try to avoid releasing a game before it's stable and as bug-free as possible.
